It dawned on me that a Predator with only a Lascannon turret could be a very effective tank...
It's able to move 6" and shoot, being twin-linked it is going to hit most of the time, and because you only care about the turret firing, are able to face the front armor into the enemy's big guns.
Yes, a 'weapon destroyed' puts a large damper on the fun, but it seems like it could win it's points back and more very easily.
Anybody tried it? Or is it too expensive?
I prefer the sponsons, for the extra 25 points you spend you get two additional weapons. If you had no other choice but to take just the turret, then perhaps so. But the AT pred is cheap as it is and you want the HS slots to be as effective as you can with there only being three of them. Dan
Of course, you have to play against a psychopath like me who even death or glories a vindicator with a plasma gun..
Be nice to your enemies, it will make them madder!
Personally, i'd rather use those points to take an obliterator. I mean, for the price of two of those lascannon turret predators, I could take 3 obliterators.
Plus, my option only takes 1 heavy support slot up (With the option to split them, of course).

Not to mention that a set of Obliterators can move and shoot more guns than the "Lonely Turret" can. Add in the weapon options and Deepstrike, and it becomes no contest.
While a nifty "outside-the-box" idea, the Lonely Turret suffers from the fact that we can get way more efficient things for the points. I'd be more comfortable with three DSing termies with combi-weapons for anti-tank, than I would for a one gun predator.

I would really prefer to use a Dreadnought with TL LC than a Predator with a lone LC turret. If you want a lascannon that can move then a walker is what you're looking for. Yes they might not be that "reliable", but they are cheaper than a Predator with the same weapon and they rock in close combat too.
Also a lone TL LC turret still have chances to miss and if it actually penetrate, you have some chances to do nothing on the damage table. A full LC Predator with 3 LC shot have a really good chance at blowing up something each turn.
Also a Dreadnought use an Elite choice, that leave you some more room for more anti-tank power.
But yeah for less points I would rather take some Obliterators or a Dreadnought.
If you're going to spend points on a predator, you may as well get your money's worth. Hitting often is not a guaranteed kill.
I prefer obliterators because of the flexability they provide. But your list may be appropriate for predators.
I would never put a heavy weapon on a dreadnaught with the rules as they currently are written.

I'm tempted, sorely sorely tempted. I've been using frequently the Auto/Las combination and frankly I'm sick of it. I hate having to move and lose so much firepower - what's ncie about Obliterators is that they can Deep Strike AND deploy normally if you need the support from turn one. My only issue with them is their vulnerability - a Lascannon can reflect harmlessly off a Predator hull, not so much with an Obliterator. Still, my next step is one of three options
All las preds (very expensive)
Or single turrets, which, while less guns, can move and fire (beautiful). And, if you have two, you can use them in concert to hit the same targets if need be. But Thyr has a point, dreadnoughts can achieve the same objective, albeit more expensive - my problem there is mine rarely listen to me.
But if I playtest it, I'll let you know.
