Welcome to Librarium Online!
so i play black legion and havent played for about a year, figured new codex maybe ill get back in. Then i hear lots of bad news about the new codex. Dont have money atm to go get the codex to see for myself so i figured id ask how bad things really are? i hear most heavy support is basically screwed. I did hear the regular chaos marines are better though.
Oh and i heard the dreads are basically screwed, can you still mark them and have it be useful?
last real question is about Abbadon. Is he still amazing or just a waste of points?
Right, the New codex gets mixed reviews. Its VERY different to the old one, but all in all its still pretty good.
Heavy support got buffed if anything. the problem is too many things to take. Land raiders are still not great, and vindicators aren't brilliant, but Predators, Obliterators (Yes, they are heavy now) and defilers are all SO amazing.
Basic CSM are simply astounding for their points. Not to give too much away but think, old CSM, with ALL the basic weaponry (Bolter, Pistol, CCW, and both grenades). No longer can they take veteran skills, but still, they are useful.
Dreadnoughts. They are fun, but WAY too unreliable. Also you cannot dedicate them to any gods anymore (One of my biggest problems with the new codex). But all in all, they are still fair to put out. just don't expect spectacular things from them.
Abbadon... I'm on the fence here. I prefer my own chaos lord, but if you are running a frinedly list I wouldn't say no to using him. Again, don't expect him to win games alone.
Rork: In the dark future of the 41st millennium there is only friendship.
Fenrir: and magic.
Kaiser-: My Little Chaos Marine, Friendship is Heresy?
yeh depending on things and was a thought way before. i might just use abbadons model and make it lord i put custom skills on to see if its more worth it. sucks about the dreads but w.e the troops sound like they will make up for some losses.
oh and just noticed dreads are elites now wich means ill field 2 and make them close combat and if they need to attack friendlies they can just go at eachother. For heavies i could just use a pred, defiler, oblits, or another pred depending on what i need for the match im in.

Well, abaddon is really expensive, about the same as a landraider, but for good reason.
If the opponent doesnt kill him quick he'll make a mess of everything he touches.
Feel free to mix and match marks and units to suit your tastes and application on the field.
Troops are amazing, Elites are good and, uh elite,
Fast attack is sub-par, with chaos spawn being the prime example of
"The thing that should never be".
Heavy support carries the biggest hammers, as it should be.
I like it.
When the new 'dex came out, we heard a lot of players complain about how generic our troops had become. Some members even crossed into blasphemy and called our chaos marines loyalists with spikes . The aspiring champion isn't the template he used to be. No more mutation and daemonic strength; but where he took losses, the rest of his squad received tremendous boosts, enough to compensate in my opinion. Also, there's little doubt that our cult options are now very remote from anything the emperor had conceived, way back before the blessed heresy that gave us purpose and hate. Don't let their cost fool you into getting in a rut. They are very well prepared to handle our enemies.
Heavies: Pretty much been covered. I'd only add that the land raider is better in 4th edition, although it's still a right bit expensive, as it should be. After all, we don't want land raiders being fielded by every chaos army out there. They really are designed for seeing the occasional use, but they certainly aren't our blood -n- butter. Some people think the land raider is a good fire magnet, which it is, although a good opponent will likely just avoid it until he/she has whittled down your preds and rhinos, or when he/she gets in range with a melta gun.
Dreads: As Riptor said, they are ok and rather inconsistent. However, when fielded in pairs, they seem to have far more potency than one might expect (redundancy has always been one of our strong points). Some builds do well by dreads, while others can figure out how to make them work. I like a cheap walker with its c.c. arm and a missile launcher. For 100 points, its no travesty if you lose him, but still capable of aiding your tank busting in the first few rounds, and then switching over to close combat mode in order to assist your spearhead. Overall, a solid 'bridge' unit, but nothing to put your ashes in.

Well, unless you count Red Corsairs . . .All true - the authors got the nod even though neither had ever played Chaos.i hear lots of bad news about the new codex
Players who look at 40k as a form of chess weren't bothered.
Those of us who like to roleplay our armies were gutted.Just a couple of examples - and I swear I'm not making this up:i hear most heavy support is basically screwed
The defiler exchanged Indirect Ord for Fleet. Yes, a Heavy Dreadnought with Fleet. And WS3 . . .
Chaos Spawn are now a Fast Attack choice. With Slow and Purposeful. Yes, a slow Fast Unit.
Remember: forward all fan mail to Gav Thorpe and Alessio Cavatore c/o GWUK.Gosh, yes. We're almost as good as Ultramarines, now. In fact, Smurfs are just like us except, instead of Daemons, they get Scouts. So, yeah. Brilliant . . .They were screwed before, now they're worse -i heard the dreads are basically screwed
Not only will they Twin-link Lascannon their own HQ, they'll moon Railguns to do it.Even better - you can't Mark *anything* that isn't an HQ.can you still mark themNo. He lost his millennia-old weapon mastery, and now accidentally cuts himself quite a lot.Abbadon. Is he still amazing
I've demoted him to Termi Champ for the duration.

Part about abbadon is sad. Ill probably keep the piece for the look and all but considering him a termy lord or something. Dreadnaught thing also sucks i dont think the loyalist dread friendly fires. As for the troops they seem good but if they are going to downgrade some junk they should atleast allow us to use some new units. like drop pods and speeders or something. W.e though doesnt do any good complaining, i guess best thing to do is deal with what you got and go kill the loyalists. Waiting for my new box of marines and codex to get in but gamesworkshop online is being abnormally slow. WOOT killing some guardsmen next week.
Abaddon is still an amazing model and causes ALOT of damage. Unless you roll like a shmoe
