Just started with Daemons and here is the first question of many no doubt.
Changeling is this a worth while addition, and what are the best tactics for this model? For example is it used only on units with low LD's?
Am i right in thinking that at the beginning of a game the model is represented by a normal Horror, and only after being used is it identified to your opponent (once identified any model will do). When known to your opponent, is it generally prioritized for targeting?
Thanks in advance.
It's important to remember which model is the changling, both for LoS and distance purposes, but also for wound allocaiton purposes. Generally, I use a gold-painted horror to represent him in a battle where he's actualyl a horror. (In fun games, I get my op's permission to use other more...interesting...models, and sometimes their base size changes because of this.)
Never dawned on me to redirect fire on other units. As i thought though once per game if your lucky.
Yes, if you're lucky they will fail their leadership test once per game and you will be allowed to shoot their squad.
But just the threat of the power gives you value as well.
Just the threat of a failed charge because of a missed leadership check may make him not shoot at all. This is a Win.
Just the threat of having to shoot at a critical unit or character because of a failed leadership check may make him skip shooting a unit. This is a Win.
Really, I see that value of the Changling as the uncertainty it pushes on the opponent rather than the maybe one missed roll. It's only 5 points.
I get more value from him when the opponent knows all the rules of the Changling and has to worry about it, rather than someone who doesn't know all the rules and is surprised when he has to check leadership.
