Ok so I've been contemplating on starting my CSM army and have started to plan some colour schemes. Since I'm really bad at decision making, I thought you guys could maybe help. No fluff has been made yet so don't think of that.
I didn't put this in painting because this has no real painting involved.

I couldn't get your links to open. Any chance they're broken?

Yes apparently I did have bad links.
Fixed them, check 1st post.
You could always use both color schemes for different squad types- i.e., CSM & chosen for instance. Alternatively, you could mix and match the colors, so a model might have orange shoulder pads with gray torso.
Another factor is your painting skills. Black and gray models look disproportionally worse when painted to a low level, as compared to other colors (white excluded).

Would the grey one be silver with black outlines? I'd love to see that, similar to mine in a few ways.
I think maybe after giving the codex a few good reads and thinking about your fluff the scheme comes a lot quicker.
I did black for my marines because
1) i paint badly
2) they are no-nonsense assault troops
3) ex blacktemplars
One of the nice things about Chaos is that you can mix it up a bit and still look like a cohesive force.
I picked out a color scheme for my basic chaos marines, and painted each of the marked units in their colors.
Berserkers are red, Plague marines green, noise marines black/pink, tzzench Blue. This really helps release some of the monotony of painting an entire army one color.
Alternately you can paint the god specific troops in your own colors with just a hint of color influence in their armor.
So you could paint your whole army one color, but maybe change the color of the trim on their armor. In this case you’d want to pick a color that would look good with a variety of different colors along side it.
Be nice to your enemies, it will make them madder!
this is something that i have been having a bit of a struggle over recently as well. I just purchased a bunch of CSM stuff and am very much looking forward to assembling and playing them. HOWEVER! I do not want to make the same mistakes that i made with my Eldar. The main mistake was assembly without knowledge of play or of understanding how difficult it can be to paint once everything is in place (esp all arms/legs/heads/etc.....). SO. I have been trying to come up with a scheme that i like. One thing that i do have going for me is that i have a bunch of ultramarines collecting dust. I never used em, just bought em off of ebay for a good price and figured i could make some money on them. well, that didn't happen and seeings how i hate the Emporer with a Passion, they are becoming traitors. I read in Horus' backround that he has a rather rag-tag army put together and they use red because that is what they paint all their stuff when they turn traitor. Im thinking a knife, a lighter, a messed up paintbrush, some greenstuff and a few shades of red (dark, blood, gore, bright) could really make a sweet secondary force. The problem i am running into though now is, should i just go with horus and his gang, or should i burn my own flame and go with something different. I'm also wondering if it wouldn't be a bad idea to just paint the new CSM stuff UM and then distort it after wards. That is a major undertaking though, and i have not been playing that long (just over a year), and out of that time painting has not been practiced much. I am kinda leaning towards horus' corsairs because i also have Black Templar stuff as well, which i would be able to also incorporate then as well. But, i am new to CSM, and have no experience with conversion, little experience with painting (it does turn out decent when i put in the time tho. and i do have nice brushes and a lot of paint colors) and no where to go within 45 minutes for help/ideas/help/help/help......
Anyways, thanks in advance for the info, and i will think about all suggestions.
