Ok. I'm a new member of LO and a beginner at 40K. I Like Chaos Space Marines and are hooked on the lore of the whole game. (Horus Heresy is a great book line btw). Anyway on to the point of the topic.
I haven't really started to collect miniatures yet and am trying to create an army list before I do so. My problem is the fact that CSM is just way too cool!!! I can't seem to get all the units I want with the point limitations implemented by the game. I am trying to keep my army in a competitive range so 1750 pts. I don't mind having a "sidebar" of a couple of choices that would bring that total to 2000 pts. What I would like to get from all of you friendly folks is advice and opinions on what I should take and what I should leave behind.
I will list what I want and let you all tell me the options and unit sizes I should use. Please remember I try to stay to fluff as much as possible so favored numbers in units will score big points with me.
I know this is probably an overdone topic but the similar thread in the army list section was locked I didn't know where else to ask.
Anyway the list of really wanted:
DP with MoT or MoK, possible Warptime and wings
Summoned Greater Daemon
Chaos Lord with MoT and Daemon Weapon
Raptors with MoK (remember favored numbers here too)
Noise Marines (I happen to like the Blastmaster, this squad will move to stay in firing range and try to stay out of CC. Fire support squad)
Plague Marines (objective squatters)
Summoned Lesser Daemons (I'll use the Bloodletters models. Look the best)
Also wanted but not as big of a priority:
Theme of the army is very similar to the Word Bearers. The Chaos Lord is a fallen Chaplain (using Maugan Ra model). My Fallen Chaplain preaches the glories of all the Chaos Gods and allows his troops to worship as they see fit. The cult troops are special ops forces like the Death Wing. Noise marines are called the Orators and use amplified litanies of Chaos to dishevel their foes. The Plague marines are the Deacons of Decay and the special forces of Grandfather Nurgle. The Raptors use the ability to get into combat quickly to further the goals of the blood god. And, just as their patron god, the HQs plot and plan the ever changing battle forces in the ideals of Tzeentch. I was also thinking that the Chosen would provide a beautiful base for the Greater/Lesser Daemons to be summoned to. Infiltrate... summon. Just awesome. Obliterators are only if you all think I need more tank busting and CSM are for more troop choice if you think they are needed. Since only troops can claim I feel I may fall short without them.
Those are the story tenets I am trying to stick too I just can't make a list work for me. I want an, at least somewhat competitive army with a fitting role in my story. Please help if you can and give advice or lists of your own for the theme.

Noise marines are great, but the blastmaster is a waste of points alot of the time. The sonic blasters though are great, A2/H3 weapons, yum.
Not many lists use the demons, as the points are better spent on other stuff.
Just go look at the army list section for some 1500-2000 point lists, and see what is common about them, that should give you a good base of what to aim for. Then with any extra points, you can spice it up with your demons and whatnot.
Also to note, if you take a MoK on a DP, you can't give him warptime.
So, you have to decide, what's better, an extra attack, or rerolling all to hits/towounds.
Try out a DP with MoT and Warptime/Winds of Chaos (wrecks havock), or a DP with MoS and Lash, gives you a nice way to line everything up for your template weapons. I've run a 2000 point list with one of each of those, and used the LoS to line everyone up under the Winds template. Took out all but 1 in the squad, and he failed his leadership test, so no regrouping :-P
Yes, I did deep-strike your sister...
Necrons : W-8 D-3 L-7 (Sleeping in their TombFoam, waiting for a new codex)
Chaos Forces (CSM/CD): W-42 D-19 L-28
Apocalypse Games : W-4 D-0 L-1 (4 Titans, Brass Scorp, 3 Baneblades, 2 Bombers, 3 Fighters, and a Partrage in a Pear Tree)
Noise marines are awesome, and despite various opinions I do believe blastmasters are worth there points. They are extremely fun to use too.
Plague marines - hard as hell to move off an objective.
Dreadnought - Equip with missile launcher + cc wep [with h.flamer]. Frenzy doesn't hurt anything then.
Defilers are carnage =]
Give your troop choices rhinos, and run squads of 7-8.
Vanilla CSM with melta's are also a prime choice.
