Chaos God? I prefer to use the underdog so I don't want to use the space marines of daemons.
Mono-Nurgle, without Epidemius.
ASide from that, it's hard to say which. Going single-god, Khorne, Slaanesh, and Tzeentch each have their own playstyles, weaknesses, and strengths. Although, I do see Tzeentch mixed with just about every other God to provide shooting support in multi-god lists, that's really about the only staple I see.
I have never seen a mono-Slaanesh list before, probably because Daemonettes are the weakest troop option in the codex, but the elite, HQ, and FA options are actually quite good, although Seeker (FA) models are MIA.
I would say a mono tzeentch would be hard to pull off. With virtually no CC, they would be hard to run mono.
I saw on another forum recently a guy who ran a mono-Tzeentch list in a tourney and it seemed like he actually did fairly well. He didn't win the tourney (actually, Nurgle Daemons did), but I think he won two out of his three match-ups. Mono-Tzeentch is a loooot of fire-power, so things tend to be pretty whittled down by the time they get to you, plus I believe he ran 3 Tzeentch DPs, which can hold their own just fine in CC.
Hmmm...not sure....i do think keeper of secrets for 200 points is deadly but to be honest your best troop choice will be bloodletters.
Eradicating chav scum since 2005!
Id say mono-nurgle without epidemius aswell.
Ive ran a mono-slaanesh list and found it quite nasty, daemonettes really dont make a big impact, but you need them as scoring units, while being low T and Str, I found their Fleet, Grenades and high I to be nasty. What makes the list so nasty is the Kipper, Heralds on chariots, fiends and seekers.
The thing is the codex is not really based around mono gods at all. Sure you can run them but they would all be pretty crappy. They would do well vs. some armies and suck against others. Even Mono Nurgle could beat alot of the other mono gods without epidemius. 5 MCs that have highest T and wounding everything on 2s is nothing to laugh at.
Here is my weakest unit for each slot:
HQ: heralds of nurgle
Elites: Beasts of nurgle
Fast attack: Furies
Heavy support: All are good unless you give them crappy or too many upgrades then they are just point sinks
Here is the my strongest unit for each slot:
HQ: anything but nurgle heralds depending on the rest of your army
Elites: Fiends(Hardest slot to say which is best but I think they shine better then the other options in their versatility)
Troops: Plaguebearers(they do what nothing else can, Score and hold objectives well)
Fast attack: Screamers(Most reliable tank hunters point for point)
Heavy Support: Properly geared of either.
So if you want a underdog list take units out of my worst for each and then spend all the rest of your points on super tooled out Demon princes .
My upcoming blog in the works:
Want an underdog list? Go mono-Nurgle, using only Nurglings and Nurgle heralds.
I think out of all them a mono-Nurgle list sans Epidemius can be difficult to pull off, simply because of how slow it can be. But pretty much any mono-God list has its brutal moments, so you'll do fine with just about whatever you feel suits you best...
I run a mono-Tzeentch list. Have had a pretty good run with it, including top battle points at a recent 2-day, 5-round event that was fairly large size. I'll be taking it to Adepticon, so we'll see how it goes.
Basically, it's what was said above, it has a giant pile of shooting, runs 3 Tzeentch-marked DPs to take advantage of the BS5 and the fierce fighting abilities, and mostly, it has Kairos Fateweaver anchoring everything down, and makes up for the lack of CC-prowess with re-rolled 4+ invulnerables everywhere. Any random Pink Horror unit can typically live long enough for the Princes to sweep in and save the day.
If you were curious:
2x Heralds with Chariot, Icon, Bolt
6x 5 Pink Horrors with Bolt (1 with Changeling)
3x 3 Flamers
3x Daemon Prince, Tzeentch mark, Gaze, Bolt
It's a fun little army, and is the only of the mono-god lists that won't just be a big close combat slugfest.
If you just want something absolutely ridiculously brutal (if a bit unimaginative)... Kairos Fateweaver + 3x 8 Bloodcrushers to murder everything in their path and be incredibly hard to kill. And it's only 813 points, so you've got plenty left to spend on Troops and Heavys. Sure, this chunk of army would be $650, but might as well give it a whirl if you're proxying.
