Its pretty self explanitary. What is your favorite special weapon for your CSMs? I have been, for a while, deep in the I <3 plasma camp, taking mech dual plasma squads, but of more recent Ive been tempted to take meltas at 2/3rds the cost or even flamers at 1/3rd the cost.
What are your opinions on special weapons? Why do you use the ones you use and why dont you use the ones you dont use?
I used to be a plasma boy to the bone. Every squad had them. Now, however, with the price hike, along with the virtual domination of the rhino rush, I transitioned over to the melta gun. The need for a heavy hitting assault weapon is vital for my guys, since they don't have much opportunity for mid-ranged fighting anymore.
Spambot kill tally. . .337
voted melta, plasma are good but there is the risk of your precious marines a'sploding. Meltas are still useful against tough-as-nails infantry, but can also be handy for a spot of tank hunting.
Though as I have finally convinced my brother to get into building an IG army, I may very soon develop a love for flamers
I love flamers myself. Meltas, I take if I really need extra anti-tank. Plasmaguns are for my unmounted objective campers. But flamers are good against almost any infantry.
The humble flamer, cheap in points, and often underestimated by MEQ players. If I roll up and hit the typical 5+ MEQs, I have good odds of dealing 3+ wounds, 1 of which will typically make it through armor. And there's no to-hit roll to muck it up. That's better odds of infantry-killing then meltas the vast majority of the time.
Of course, I also pack oblits and a battle canon in most games, so I don't have as much call for mere plasmaguns or meltas.
Wargamer Haven, my little cyberspace blogspot.
Deathguard get feel no pain which helps against overheats so I use 6 plasma guns and 4 meltas in 1500 points.
Quorn! - Protein for the Protein God.
Ill say Plasma just for the extra range. Ive yet to cause any major damage with melta guns.
The CSMs armed with melta guns in my army have killed more in close combat than in the shooting phase!
Currently play: 4000+ of Black Legion
Plasma on plague marines for the win. 3+/4+ so they rarely die from it, and it has range and punch.
BURN ALL THAT APPOSE THE BURNING LEGION!!
I always love flying around with my raptors and set things on fire, every terminator squad has a heavy flamer and Obliterators also own flamers. But I must admit, plasma on plaque marines are cool too, but still flamers all the way.
I really like the meltagun, since the plasmagun is a bit of a double-edged sword, and you can't argue with ap2!
