Greetings, I recently faced off against a Nidzilla list called the Nuke Choir, it basically forces you to take leadership at -5 and packs tons of high strength template weapons. I'm having difficulty not due to the leadership problems since I run a lash list with all fearless CSM. But once they hit my line those carnifexes, genestealers and hive tyrants rip me to shreads.
Does anyone have any suggestions in general in dealing with this list.
Damn nidz. I always had problems with them when i played eldar. I am very interested to see this answer.
War is my master; Death my mistress.
My flatmate is a nid player, and he loves his monstrous creatures. His average list has the flyrant (flying Hive Tyrant), 3 carnifexes, Broodlord with a retinue of genies, some gaunts, bunch of warriors, flying swarms and some other unit that can shoot.
Almost everything is closecombat specialised, almost everything has multiple wounds.
I have learnt a few do's and don't's:
Deepstriking termies with combi plasmas is AWESOME. Shove them down his throat via deepstrike, your 6 plasma shots should get a couple of wounds on the carnifex, and they (four) should be able to stick in combat for a couple of turns, enough for a few more wounds from a powerfist.
4 man unit of termies often almost kill the flyrant despite being assaulted. Again, it's the powerfist which is singing for you.
If you have a guy like Kharn on the field, do not assault the carnifex unless significantly wounded because Kharn is not a "Kharn"ifex and will die with one hit. But do not hesitate in using his plasma pistol either. He is gonna get one hit KO'd when he is in assault, losing a wound or two to overheat is not bad.
Don't assault genies with your troops, even with berzerkers, as they will be slaughtered. Unless, of course, you're just strategically sacrificing the unit =)
Have a mobile weapons platform. I usually stick a Land Raider in one spot and don't move it. 1-3 wounds on a carnifex per turn. You can quickly zoom away if trouble approaches, but carnifexes are comparably slow so no probs there. I keep the berzerkers in here, usually the whole game, as my emergency backup. Oblits are great at pwning stuff too, but don’t bother with the plasma cannon on the tyrants – I have found the lasscannon to be much more effective.
Keep your Thousand sons in vehicles if genies are around. I usually just try to wind of chaos a pack of genies that just got out of CC with something (good if they assault the rhino, hehee). If you see a carnifex away from the synaps creatures DEFINITELY go and assault it. The very small odds of wounding the creature with the forceweapon is sufficient – I’ve killed 3 carnifexes that way so far. Plus they hold up big stuff for ages.
Combi plasmas on rhinos are sweet for 5 points. Worst case something wastes a turn or two attacking it. Move your rhinos at least 7 inches each time if shooting isn’t viable so they don’t get taken out in CC.
Dual DCCW Dreadnaughts are wicked at taking out carnifexes, but make sure it’s down to 2 wounds or something. Once by luck all of my Dready’s attacks wounded (they usually miss) and killed a fex with 4 wounds remaining. They are also pretty good with the heavy flamer and assaulting genies (again, the tying up thing).
A CSM squad sitting in a corner with a plasmagun and heavy bolter is also a great nuisance.
Probably the only thing I have left out of this is my sorcerer with raptors, but they don't do jack against nids, so I swap em around with other stuff (440pts man).
Anyway, against a list with 4 monstrous creatures this has a 70% win rate. If the opponent takes out 7 monstrous creatures you can only counter it (in my opinion) with a list designed to kill monstrous creatures - i.e. heaps of plasma guns, lascannons, powerfists etc.
Just my two cents, sorry for writing so long =P
Be nice to your enemies, it will make them madder!
Just to add to the thread, for those who plan to answer - I've seen a few SM players bring Vindis to Tyranid battles, this seems odd to me, as unless you can land a clean shot on stealers they are basically one wound per turn on an MC if you're lucky - seems like I'd rather have Predators or some such.
"If you can wait til I get home, then I swear we can make this last."
My bro uses a nidzilla list and Ive found that we actually have a lot to deal with them.
1. Powerfist, wounds on almost every attack and no armor save
2. oddly the plague bearer, wounds 50% of time and no armor, add to lord on bike= ability to stand up to fex's for a short amount of time.
3. Do not assault genies, shoot them or use flamers then brace for impact.
4. Raptors with 2 flamers, lightning claws and IoT can fight stealers but not for long, trade out flamers for meltas and claws for a fist and Iot for IoK and you can kill fex's
5. Volume over strenght, dont bother with the lascannon when you get more shots with an autocannon, it all depends on how many wounds you can inflict.
6. gang up on fex's, dont put 2 wound on 3 fex's put 6 on 1 because give enough time it will regenerate.
7. Concentrate on what reaches your lines, dont target the long range units, kill CC units.
8. Take somewhat larger squads, 12-15 men so that the genies dont kill everyone, and when you get to hit back they are kinda fragile.
hope it helps and good luck
