I am looking to make an epidemius list and while building my DP's they are about 200 points each! So I was thinking of just putting in 3 units of flamers (3-4 per unit) instead of the DP. I know they would not count kills for tally but they should make short work of vehicle and problem troops? I am new to deamons and only played one game so far. I have read all I can on the boards though and can't wait to start making armies that win! lol Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
Flamers don't kill tanks, glancing hits don't kill tanks. Screamers and Tzeralds in chariots work a lot better.
ahhh forgot about those little guys (screamers). So i guess it would be better to keep the DP with MON so they add to tally and add some screamers to handle tanks?
For tank hunting, either a GD or some flying Melta-Bombs, are usually our best bet. You can use a DP but either of the other two will be more effective, most of the time. Also don't forget you can put the flamer's template as a weapon onto the DP. That will make it count for tally.
DPs work fine, they just need Unholy Might. S6+2d6 is nice. You just need wings so you can catch enemy vehicles.
So i am thinking the norm is to have 225 point princes running around? I am new to daemons (one game) but that seems like a boat load of points. I have nurglings commming just waiting on the post office to find the package . I get the idea that flamers are there to kill massed troops and not vehicles so I was way off on that. I looked at the dp faq that is stickyed up top and I am still having trouble with the points costs. Also do I need to have a breath of change on the nurgle dp to count for tally? I though it's normal cc attacks would count too? Thanks again for all the help guys!
If you're running a tally army your DPs are doing all the heavy lifting at first, so you need them alive and killy. 225 may seem like a lot, but since everything else in the army is slow, bad in combat, and unable to destroy vehicles, you kinda have to deck the DPs out.
Normally I'd agree with you, but in a Tally army you have nothing that can catch fast-moving enemies. You drop in with a foot prince, they run away and shoot you. Your DP can't catch them, it dies, you lose.
So in this instance the 225 point dp is the way to go for lack of options for tank hunting. For list that are not running epidemius do the princes normally have wings? Also what is the normal point cost of DP's when you have other viable tank busting alternatives?
