Why does he cost almost the same as Abbadon yet is not good at all?... He has almost the same stat-line as a normal 1K Sons Marine except with a few extra wounds, Eternal Warrior and the ability to make 3 psychic tests per turn, yet costs more than a Land Raider :-o
Does he have some sort of hidden utility that I'm not seeing, or is he just a complete waste of points?
he's kind of ultra flexible. he has a psychic power for every situation there might be. 3 attempts to spawn someone every turn is nothing to sniff at. or shoot a rhino with his bolt of change, then burn up the survivor with wind of chaos before chargeing in, turning their champion with powerweapon into spawn. thats awesome. pity he doesn't have a disc of tzeentch or a jump pack but that would make him even more expensive.
end of the day, he is awesome but i think he's overpriced, too. if you run into space marines with hood or some eldar, he looses his benefits quite fast.
Fair points, although I don't think he can shoot at transport wreck survivors after having killed the transport, can he?
What I'm trying to establish is if Ahriman is worth his points, or if you'd be better off spending them on something else. Like a Possessed Land Raider. Or 2 Obliterators and half a squad of PMs.
As far as I can see, Ahriman doesn't have Eternal Warrior, taking him a notch down on the useful ladder.
And now to erase your memory of this entire conversation.
You cant target the survivors of the rhino after shooting the apc, they count as seperate targets.
Ahriman is a great multi purpose HQ, good in CC with warp time, good anti horde with wind and doom bolt, OK AT with bolt of change and character sniper with the gift. His only lack IMO is his speed. Putting him in a rhino and having him cast from the top hatch is quiet sneaky!
I think its because that he can excell in obth combat and CC. ranged he has lots of powers to do damage, then use warptime and his force weapon to kill characters, and either use wind of chaos for some template goodness or spawn if you need to.
While he is good, I don't like expensive 200pt+ characters that can be killed with a single hidden PFist. That said, I'd rather get a Daemon Prince w/MoT, wings, GoC & Warptime instead.
Sorry to threadjack, but can Ahriman (or any other chaos HQ) cast GoC into a unit already locked in combat in which he is not part of?
I think so; it says "the caster may be in close combat, as may the target" or something like that, which infers that the caster doesn't necessarily need to be in combat with his target, or indeed anyone, to give his target the good news. He just needs to be in range..
