I'm just wondering, with your particular play style and how you enjoy the game, what's the lowest point value you can goto with out feeling like you're crippled?
Personally, I have trouble making a list lower than 1500 pts while still filling out all my necessary force-org stuff. I can do it, but then my army always feels very... lame. It has no flavor.
What are your thoughts?
I find I can go down to 1000 points and still enjoy it quite a bit. Anything lower isn't enough. On the flip side anything over 1750 feels like too much to me unless I'm going all out and playing Apocalypse.
I like the 1000-2000 point range. Less than that and I dont feel I can use enough "toys," and more than that sometimes seems a burden.
(WH40K) Dark Eldar - (12,000pts) Sisters of Battle - (5000pts) Dark Angels -(3500pts) (WHFB) Dark Elves - (10,000pts) Beastmen - (5000pts) Empire - (3000pts) Wood Elves - (1500pts)
We've been playing 750pt lately and at that level our CSM players have been quite effective.
Mainly it's the bloody Daemon Princes, but you have some nice troop choices which gives you more flexibility than most.
I like my games going from 1000 to 2000pts.I just need my DP, 2 squads of marines and 3 oblits to make me happy
Under 1k works, but will feel really restricted, it's just basically hq, 2 troops and maybe a flavour unit.
I very rarely get to play above 1k points, since my normal opponents don't have bigger armies than that. (and they're proxying a lot as it is)
Still feels a fair bit cramped, hq, 3 troops, an elite or two and a heavy support, and thats pretty much it.
Bottom line, we have kickass troops so any points limit is effective, but won't really become fun until the points ramp up.
Anything less than a 1000 and I struggle. And even then im a lot more comfortable at 1500. Lately we have been playing 1750 which seems a good amount.
Currently play: 4000+ of Black Legion
i prefer my 1750 army, i just love my raptors! however i find i can build what seems to be a very effective 1000 point army which is mostly two plauge marines squads and some rhinos + the prince.
iv never gotten to play in a 2,000 point game, but im just itching to use my chosen one squad with its 5 plasma guns out flanking!
Could you understand the beauty of the beast?
It is hard to keep my theme when under 1500 points. At 1000 I'm always outnumbered, and troops are inefficient. Small thousand sons squads end up averaging 31 points per model, effective sorcerors are over priced and take up most of the list - basically it doesn't help magic.
Ordinary CSM is probably one of the most efficient for low levels, but you risk losing some theme (I personally don't take CSM for this reason).
1,500 is ok, but I shine at 1,750 and 2,000.
Be nice to your enemies, it will make them madder!
The designers have repeatedly said that the game is designed to be balanced at 1500pt. Hence why it always feels a bit cramped below that, and too big once you get past about 1850.
2000 is way too big for my tastes, 1500 is where things really shine, 1000-1450 is always a bit cramped.
As another poster mentioned, 750 is really interesting -- because it basically becomes another game... At point levels that low, it is basically a battle to see who has the most effective HQ's and the best basic troops. CSM have some good HQs, but we have the best basic trooper in the game. Add the fact that you can customize with icons, and Chaos just cleans up!
