My friend is just starting chaos space marines he has a few regular squads a Terminator Lord and a few other things. Now I being a loyalist marine player have no clue of CSM. I was wondering which chaos god should he orient his army towards.
PS OUR Emporer RULEZ
Ok heres some things you should consider. The 4 gods are all VERY different. Khorne is an assault oriented rushing force with lots of attacks and strength but lacks in any real anti armor but makes up for it with the potential for tanks and obliterators. Slanesh is also assault oriented but lacks the brute force of khorne, however they are more specialist units and can deal with many different kinds of situations. Tzeetch is a very methodical army, all the units confer invulnerable saves and can survive alot of firepower, and the magic potential of tzeetch sorcerers can turn the tide of battles when their slow warriors cannot capture objectives or are taking too long to get somewhere. Nurgle is the toughest army for chaos, all the units can survive very well with their high toughness making them hard to hurt, and then being able to survive being killed outright with feel no pain. Depending on your favoured tactic you should base a army around one or several of these gods
Army: Chaos Space Marines
Strategy: KILL EVERYTHING
Rules that I live by: Kick ass, be a good person, and eat alot
Is he looking to focus on one God or another? There's nothing wrong with playing a more undivided army while he builds a preference.
(WH40K) Dark Eldar - (12,000pts) Sisters of Battle - (5000pts) Dark Angels -(3500pts) (WHFB) Dark Elves - (10,000pts) Beastmen - (5000pts) Empire - (3000pts) Wood Elves - (1500pts)
IMO, you shouldnt pick a god, you should pick a warband / legion wich suits your list, then you just read up on the legions fluff and see what god they worship. I severely recomend Black Legion. It will save you lods £$£$ in paint, Is very simple to play and worships all gods in equal measure. In general, its basicaly the lazy option. Now thats my kinda option!
Abaddon: is power crazed.
Kharn: probably can't spell his own name.
The Emperor: IS DEAD!
If loyalists insit Upon worshiping a CORPSE then I'd quite happily make you a monarch
HEY! Just because Kharn is a little over the top doesn't mean he doesn't have feelings towards your insults.
Yeah, but. If you give us more info as to what type of list sounds more fun, we can better help you out.
I wont lie to you though, Khorne is the coolest. Hands down. No lies. Not Joking. I swear.
Basicaly,heres the lowdown:
Khorne: actualy probably is the coolest, but that being said it is (IMHO) probably by far the worst. All of its units are heavy cc, but dont realy stand a chance against CC monsters like genestealers. Also, they have a severe lack of range power, the defiler being their only option (If you remain true to fluff). If your friend is a malignant bloodthirsty phsycopath who likes all things sharp and chainy, pick khorne.
Nurgle: I personaly despise nurgle, he is called grandfather nurgle. That makes him sound like some sorta big fat cudly teadybear! Albeit a very slimy one. Nurgle lists are very survivable, and will probably suffer lower death tolls than grey knights (but your list will have more than 4 models in your army). Having said that, nurgle doesnt realy have access to the great weapons / psychic power that other gods armies do (like lash of submission or bloodfeeders or tzeench daemon princes). If your friend has aids or leperacy, pick nurgle.
Slaanesh: Pink shirts and a fasination with high school musical. If you have these qualities than you are a budding slaanesh player. However, dont jump to conclusions and say ALL slaansh players are a bit "this way, that way". Some people (like me) have a slaanesh army cos we are hard core tourney power gamers* who have their eye on that lash of submission (it lets you move your opponents models).
Tzeench: Mental men, they blast you apart with their minds. Your friend think he can use telekenisis? tell him to get over it and buy some rubrics!
* Dont worry, when im not ripping peoples throats out for a prize or playing a grudge match I do undestand the purpose of a friendly and fun non power game.
P.s. Hope i didnt isult your friend too much lol all in good fun.
First, tell your friend, welcome and well done for joining the angst that is Chaos.
There are a few practical things to consider when looking at which god or gods to choose.
Firstly, do you want to play a mono-god army, and if so, which god. If you do play mono-god, obviously your friend should also look at the special Troops choices, i.e. Berzerkers, Plague Marines etc.
If you're o.k. playing with mixed gods, then you can tailor Marks and Icons of the Gods to particular needs. The Mark/Icon of Nurgle is very expensive, and their are very few units which merit its cost. Spending so many points on say 3-4 Terminators or Bikers, if you are not playing a Plague Marine/Death Guard army, seems very expensive.
If you want cheap Icons for Summoning Daemons and Terminators, use Personal Icons or the the Icon of Chaos Glory.
Generally speaking, standard CSMs are powerful enough, and have good enough Leadership (with a Champ) to not need Icons.
Raptors work well with Icons, the most obvious being Khorne (give the Champ a PF) and Slaanesh (Champ with pair of L.Claws).
Assault based Chosen also benefit from Tzeentch, Khorne or Slaanesh Icons.
For a very cheap cost, you can give Terminators Slaanesh too.
If your friend wants to use 'Lash' psychic power, then the Sorcereror has to be Slaanesh.
From an Apocalypse point of view, my view on Icons changes. As I tend to field bigger units, the cost of the Icons per model gets cheaper. So I use Khorne and Tzeentch bikers for example.
As for Lords, it very much depends on which close combat weapon you want to give them. If you choose Daemon Weapons, then the Mark changes the weapon. Personally I prefer Lord with DW with no Mark, to gain the extra Strength.
So Deamon Princes and Lords tend to chosen based on the theme and vibe of your army. There are plenty of good posts about equipping Lords so I won't go further here.
Tzeentch helps the Sorcerer and D.prince with Psychic stuff.
I hope this helps a bit.
Iv'e got a question or two on this:
I like the idea of having one sqaud of each God's troop it was going to be like this:
10 Zerkers in rhino (or 8 with PF)
8/10 Plagues (2 Meltas)
8 1k sons (Sorcerer included, with doombolt)
8 Noise (Blastmaster and as many Sonic blasters as possible
the problem is, in 1500pts, my most common game, that (i think with a Lash Prince as well) take up about 1000pts, leaving not that much room.
I will be doing a 1750 point tournament in October/November time, and am making my List now, so i can paint it all, and was wondering weather it would work, personally i would rather have 2 squads of Zerkers, and no 1k sons, but then it ruins the fluff i had made up
