Yes: They Help Postion The Daemons Better
No: They're A Complete Waste Of Points
I know Icons are necessary for combat armies, but it not so clear regarding Tzzentch themed armies here’s my list for the pros and cons for Icons in Tzzentch armies.
- Most units have ranged attacks there is no reason to try and get as close as possible to the enemy.
- Scattering can often prove dangerous for Tzzentch units like Horrors you’re either in range but close enough for a charge in their turn or out of weapons range. Not to mention difficult terrain hurts.
- Helps combat based units like Princes and LOC’s
Those points are both valid, so what should I do should I go for 2 icons 1 in each wave, or spend the points on a few extra daemons?

I say no, and I say not in CC armies. They are not needed. If you could use the Icon the turn it DS it would be useful but it only helps waves after it and your first wave once it hits is really all you need to worry about. The only units worth having icons on will usually be shot at anyway and Icons are just more of a reason to kill them.
Really though, daemons are random trying to take things to take make them less random is not worth the points. Now if icons added to my roll for prefered wave I would take some .
My upcoming blog in the works:
in a word yes i like icons for my all Tzeentch army i fill out all my troop slots with Horrors and have two icons i like doing this for two things
1. it guarantees me they will be in range to fire as they come in
2. it gets them to Fate Weaver
in a Fate Weaver or troop heave list i say do it and take two or three if not well... i cant say.
I agree. The fateweavers safety zone is not that large and can get quite crowded. Yes you can deepstrike a little further out then run back in but as most tzeentch stuff shoots then running looses you a turns fire.
Icons also work wonders for flamers. Most opponents try to close the range and assault units of horrors but if a unit of 3 flamers can come down near and icon in an advantagious position you can devastate enemy units and get the horrors to polish off the survivours.
I would say 1 or maybe 2 icons should be enough in a 1500 point army. Get 2-3 in 2000 points.
