First off a little about my situation - i have a Space Marine Army that specalises in hit and run tatics, although i really like this army i was looking at something different. and i came up with a Choas Demon army.
I have had a breif look over the basics of this army and i understand that there are 4 types of gods? i assume each one specalising in differnt areas?
well i am looking at starting off with a 500 point army and eventually building this up to what ever size, i dont mind which 'god' they are under but as ive said i would like sometning as different as possible to my Space Marine hit and run.
Any advice tips and tricks would be a great help and would really help.
Thank you for your time and advice.

First, welcome to the Daemons! They're a very random army, but a lot of fun, with great models and opportunities for conversions.
The best thing you can do is check out the tacticas, strategies, and various 'getting started' threads.
A lot of the more impressive models are very expensive, so unless you're going to make your own (which is definitely doable, especially with chaos spawn sets), I'd be absolutely sure what you want before you buy anything.
There are indeed four Gods, but for the most part, you can mix and match in your army as you please. You just can't have heralds of Gods join units unless they both follow the same dark god. Slaanesh is about speed and rending, Khorne is about strength and good armor saves, Nurgle is about toughness and feel no pain, and Tzeentch is all about shooting.
So I'd check out the tacticas and figure out what you want before going any further. If you really want to start, then plaguebearers, daemon princes, fiends of slaanesh, flamers of Tzeentch, and soul grinders are the units that are useful in virutally any army (although generally you should only use either daemon princes or soulgrinders, not a mix of both).
Firstly thank you for the reply,
I am after a goo dlooking army ( one reason Deamons stood out ) but one completly different from my standard space marines hit and run close combat tactics.
the Tzeentch god you mentiond, which heavy artillery is specalist to him? are they are good rules for using this god?

We have no heavy artilery.
If you were referring to heavy choices then none of them are actually Tzeentch (Soul Grinder and Daemon Prince)
The way the gods work is more fluffy then anything. They don't get any special rules just tendencies. Tzeentch is good shooting, Khorne is good in combat. Slaanesh is fast and fragile (combat based) and Nurgle doesn't die
Sorry, just re read previous post.
I was under the impretion that had to stay within one of the four gods army not mix and match. apolagise.
Its just that some of the deoms looks amazing whenin full battle the sould grinder in particular.
As im after a heavey shooting theme what woudl you guys suggest a good 500 point army be made up from?

well theirs really only for ways Tzeentch gets shooting
Warp Fire - From Pink Horrers, basically a S4 1/2 range Heavy Bolter
Breath of Chaos - In Flamers, Poison template ignoring armor. The unit is fairly fragile so they tend to be a suicide unit but will wipe out any unit they shoot
Bolt of Tzeentch - Just about every unit can get 1, our only anti tank gun
Soul Grinder - One of hour best units, Give it phlegm and it can easily kill anything (not god specific though)
at 500 points though, i would take a Herald of Tzeentch on chariot with Bolt of Tzeentch, a unit or 2 of Flamers and a bunch on pink horrors
Thats great, exactly what i was thinking of, although looks as if the soul grinder is going to hurt my wallet

If you want to shoot, use the Tzeentch basic troop choice: Pink Horrors. Yes the shoot like guard, but they pump out a lot of shots at 18 inch range.
In elite choices: Flamers of Tzeentch. better shots than horrors, jump infantry, and a template weapon that ignores armor and cover saves, wounds on 4+ and glances on the same.
there really aren't any good shooty fast attack for daemons
Heavys: princes and grinders. grinders are your 'artillery' pieces, and daemon princes can be kitted out to do alot of nasty things.
HQ choices would be the greater daemon of tzeentch (lord of change) but he is a bit pricey. One thing most people like for mobile fire bases are Tzeentch heralds on chariots.
with 3 gods specialized for assaults, and only one shooty, we really are a specialized assault army.
Unlike many other armies, Chaos Daemons generally all use the same shooting powers, just with different BS and abilities, so if you're really interested in putting out a lot of shots, I'd look into these units:
Pink Horrors (give each unit a bolt of change, since it's cheap)
Flamers of Tzeentch
Daemon Princes of Tzeentch w/bolt (and daemonic gaze & wings, if you like)
Heralds of Tzeentch w/any of the powers
Lord of Change w/breath (as well as all the powers he normally comes with)
I wouldn't use Soul Grinders in a Tzeentch army, simply because Daemon Princes use bolt so well, and you don't want to lose that. Also, Soul Grinders are really expensive in real $, so the money is probably better spent on other units when starting out.
If you're looking into playing an all Tzeentch army, you might want to consider converting the pink horrors out of plastic models. They're really expensive if bought metal, considering how many you'd need. Personally, I made mine out of old genestealers found on ebay. I just cut off two of the arms, glued them on backwards, used clippers to trim down their genestealer heads, and used a little greenstuff to make a second face on their backs.
Welcome to the army of the dark god's btw
for a 500pts shooty list should look sumthing like this..
Chariot of Tzeentch
(we are legion, master of Sorcery, bot,)
now alot of players differ on how i run a list (wait and see) but i think this is a good base to start with at 500pts and will not brake the bank (as Tzeentch can do) this should give you a fill for what you like and dislike in a shooty daemon list at 1500 the Loc. is grate and at 2000 go with fateweaver well that's all i got for now hope that helps
