Ive jus finished up on my space marine army and now I want a team that dominates with infantry only, and ive heard chaos are the best in the business.
I mean something like loads of troops in rhinos loads of obliterators proper infantry themed army.
Troop wise IMO we have the best 2 troop choices in the game in Khorne Zerkers and Plague Marines. Obliterators are so versatile it is untrue. HQ we have Demon Princes that are amazing. Fast attack is lacking but you compensate with objective scoring troop choices in rhinos. And infiltrating chosen outflanking in a rhino can be fun :-)
If you want an infantry only with masses sort of army then really you want Orks or even Imperial Gaurd (A troops only Imperial gaurd army that just walks forward is nigh on impossible to beat unless your really good). But Chaos have some great troops at our disposal and we can have relatively large squads as well as having some of the best troops choices in the game.
I'd say if you're trying to make a heavy infantry list that takes a lickin and keeps on tickin, go with Chaos, we have the best unit in the game IMO with Plague Marines. If you just want a ton of troops, go with Orks, Nids or loyalist fodder (IG), they'll fill the board.
I was thinking some along the lines of lots of plague marines and obliterators. Can you take obliterators as heavy support only???
Oh and are terminators worth it with CSM??
Termies are meh, but if you're playing planetstrike, a squad of 5 khornite termies with lightning claws, or 4 of them with abbadon = bunches of dead defenders in turn 1
Yes, I did deep-strike your sister...
Necrons : W-8 D-3 L-7 (Sleeping in their TombFoam, waiting for a new codex)
Chaos Forces (CSM/CD): W-42 D-19 L-28
Apocalypse Games : W-4 D-0 L-1 (4 Titans, Brass Scorp, 3 Baneblades, 2 Bombers, 3 Fighters, and a Partrage in a Pear Tree)
i wouldnt normally thread-jack but i am also in the market for a new army.
i used to play Tau (sold them after i got mauled repeatedly by all the local IG players) and would like to play something different.
CSM is looking like it would fit that bill. Is CSM a reasonably forgiving army?
As a MEQ (Marine equivalent) yes they are very forgiving. As has been said, our basic troops are pound for pound the best in the game and we have the options of taking arguably the best tarpit squad in the game (plague marines) and arguably the best CC squad available to any army as troops (Zerkers).
This being said it is important to remember that you can't expect to throw all of the usual rules out the window. For instance you can't expect to take a single rhino as your only piece of armor and have it last more than 5 seconds on the board.
Our Fast Attack section is really the only section of our list that is lacking as has been mentioned, with only Raptors really pulling their weight. It would have been amazing to have some sort of fast attack vehicle in the book but you can't have everything I suppose...
That being said, Welcome to the dark side!
