Welcome to Librarium Online!
I have been thinking about lolling about with an epidimius list. i am thinking ku'gath can rack up a ton of kills with his poisoned missile thing. the only problem is, that after i get the 30 models killed or what have you, plague bearers are still hard to get into close combat.
not to mention, apart from flying nurgle princes, we have NO way to kill tanks, and even then the nurgle prince isnt great at it.
has anyone built a list with this guy and not embarassed themselves?
I like him, Mainly for the improved Feel no Pain. You could mix gods and have a Lord of Change or tzeentch DP for shooting purposes. You want shooting take 3 soul grinders, they will pretty much pie plate the enemy to death.
If a Million Guardsmen die, that's a statistic. If one marine dies, that's a tragedy.
Epi only work when you take pure Nurgle with a very specific build (3 DPoN, GUO, Epi in large unit of PB, smaller untis of PB, nurglings) and comes down to neededing your first wave to come in or fail but is devestatingly powerful when it does
I'm normally a CSM but I can tell you that I've played against an "Epi" list built similarly to what CrownAxe
was talking about, and i found it bloody difficult to beat, managin to eke out a draw only on the last turn due to some stupidly bad rolling on the opponents part. (watch 7 PBs fail their invul saves and their FNP was devestatingly funny... for me at least )
So yeah, they can work, they can work VERY well I think, but they have to be built REALLY well.
As a matter of interest, how well do Beasts of Nurgle work in Epi lists... I reckon with enough of them to compensate for rolling poorly on a few of them they can inflict another wounds to really hurt...
Beasts of Nurgle just aren't very good, plain and simple. I'd much rather have the same points in plaguebearers and/or nurglings.
Epidemus lists can be a lot of fun, and very powerful, but everything goes to hell if Epidemus doesn't drop on the first turn or two. Statistically, he has an 83% chance of coming in by turn 2, and a 94% chance of coming in by turn 3, but that's by no means a guarantee, and can really screw up a strategy. That isn't even considering the possiblity that a bad scatter or an opponent's strategy might keep you from using epidemus altogether.
The trick is building the list well enough that you can still possibly win without epidemus, or at least be able to hold on until he arrives. In any case, for these lists you definitely want to load up your daemon princes, with wings, MoN, breath, Ironhide, and CoF, as they'll be essential for bringing up the tally, when epidemus arrives.

i have never seen a nurgle beast played, but they seem ridiculous. i know that the arcoflagellents and other d6 attacks things of the sisters completely destroy.
i am going to proxy some beasts of nurgle and see how much they destroy.
Beasts of nurgle are just easy kill points in my opinnion. 2 plague bearers are better because they are scoring and they are armed with plague blades that kill on a 3+ when the tally is reasonably low. Beasts of nurgle don't get theis as they just have poisonned attacks.
a 1500 Epidemius list should look something like
HQ: GUO, flies 165
HQ: Epidemius 110
Troops: 14 PBs, Icon, Instrument 240
Troops: 7 PBs, Icon 130
Troops: 7 PBs 105
Troops: 7 PBs 105
Heavy: Prince, MoN, Nox, flies, Gaze, Hide 175
Heavy: Prince, MoN, Nox, flies, Gaze, Hide, wings 235Heavy: Prince, MoN, Nox, flies, Gaze, Hide, wings 235

Anyone ever put Ku'Gath to any good use? He could get the tally up a rank or 2 pretty fast with his cannon.
Greetings for Germany, many I love vacation
Epi is nasty until somebody gets wise and brings a Rhino, since Nurgle units have no way to destroy armor.
Beasts > PBs because of the D6 attacks, while PBs need to stick with scoring and hiding (they're never good in combat) Beasts make good backup beaters along with Nurglings once your MCs are dead.

beasts aren't better at all
They are literally 2 PBs in one model, except that it replaces the plaguesword 2A (that 2 PBs have) with 1d6 poisoned attacks and you lose the ability to capture objective
And they cost 5 points more. Does d6 attacks and losing the ability to capture objective validate the 5pt increase?
No it doesn't
