Was wondering about what would work better on a Bezerker champ a power weapon or a power fist. I haven't modeled my champ yet so thought i would get the thoughts of players with more exp using them.
i swear on the power fist, it just brings in the killing on a 3 attacks ws5 model.
never tried a power wapon on them though. from what i've observed, power weapons tend to just not kill enough opponents. besides a power fist instantly kills space marine characters and lesser beeings and can put a hurt on most tanks, especially walkers which would chew through your berzerkers if you got stuck in them, otherwise.
IMO Fists are best. You do lose the +I bonus and 1 attack but then you can insta kill pretty much most things and put a big dent in things you cant. Any smart player will try combat a squad of Bezerkers with a walker or something they cant hurt to tie them up for the game.
Power Weapons do have their advantage though against Tau and things you know you will face that dont have a high toughness in combat. My current lists feature 2 bezerker squads (never take just one!) one armed with a fist and one with a power weapon. The guy with the power-weapon has to be used a little bit more carefully than the guy with the fist. Giving the power-weapon champ melta bombs is a cheap way of being more flexible against walkers with AV but no good when that Wraithlord comes knocking!
Currently play: 4000+ of Black Legion
I personally favor powerweapons. It may not have the killing power of a fist, but it does end up saving models on your side as it has the ability to strike before opponents. I feel the danger of getting stuck in melee with a dreadnought or a wraithlord is greatly exaggerated, it's something that very rarely happends to me as I'm usually able to deal with them using range weaponary or just plainly avoiding them and picking targets that leaves me lessly exposed to getting countercharged and bogged down by them.
That said, a powerfist isn't a bad choice and I think the best idea is to arm every other champ with each weapon.
I did some calculations a while back because I wondered which was better. As far as I can remember against MEQs they were both the same on the charge, but the power fist was slightly better otherwise.
I always run my berzerkers with Kharn who gets 2D6 armour penetration against vehicles so a power fist isn't really necessary. I have found, mainly due to how good Kharn is, that my power fist champion doesn't often get to attack, so I may switch to a power weapon. You can always take melta bombs to help with vehicles if you don't take the power fist.

Powerfists, definitely. Berzerkers need versatility much more than they need to kill an extra couple models on the charge.

Had to chime in and say that I am a fan of the power weapon myself. As was said above the odds of your zerkers getting tied in with a walker are very exaggerated. 4x power weapon attacks that strike before marine initiative on the charge can end up saving some of your boys from return attacks.
I also run my zerkers with Huron when I take them so they get the benefit of his fist.

If you don't have an attached character, I would suggest the Fist because of the versatility.
If you have a full squad of 10 (or more), then I would highly advise aginst a power weapon as it can be marginalised with Wound allocation. One of my opponents loved to field the power spoons on zerkers. But he could never wipe a squad of my marines witha charge because I could just pile all the power wounds onto 1 or 2 models and reduce it's kills to 1/2 or 1/3rd of it's potential while power armor saved a big enough chunk of my remaining squad to keep the fight going if I wanted.
On a smaller zerker squad, or one you expect to take casualties before charging (yay footsloggers), that's where I've found the spoon to truely shine.
Or when you're tight on points.

Dunno if this seems obvious, but think about it - in the box you get 12 models, and if you are always going to field 10 or less then that leaves you two spare. Just model one zerker champ with a power fist, the other with a power weapon - you can change them around for your liking on a per game basis =)
Be nice to your enemies, it will make them madder!
