Is it worth the price?
I am going Emperor's Children, but short of funds, so I'm trying to save as much money as I can.

Almost all GW boxed sets are worth the price; simply add up the individual costs of the models in the box, and compare that total to the price of the boxed set.
The question you have to ask yourself, however, is whether you'll be using ALL of the models there or not.
For example, I'm starting up my Dark Eldar army, and the Dark Eldar battleforce is a deal for the cash; $90 to get $140 worth of models. I also will be using all of the models in the battleforce, so it's a great deal for me. The Space Marine battleforce, on the other hand, includes models that I would not use in my army list, so while the deal is still great, it's not worth it for me because I would never use some of the models included.
Look carefully through the models in the set(s) and think long and hard about which models you would or wouldn't use.
However, if you would use 75% of the box contents, you might still buy the set; add together the individual cost of all the models you WOULD use, and if it's roughly equal to the set cost, then go ahead and buy the set. You might find some conversion opportunities with the models you don't use, or you may find another player to buy the models off you for a little bit less than GW new price.
On the subject of the CSM Battle Force in particular, I would say it's really well worth it. 15 CSM's are ALWAYS going to be worth it as is the Rhino. Despite the fact that you've mentioned wanting to go with Emperor's Children, Khorne Bezerkers are also really solid, and who knows, you might decide to use them as deranged, drug addicted loons, or even decide on a World Eater force later. As for the possessed, well... alot of people don't like them much due to their random abilites, but IMO they're bloody good fun.
i dont know about the battleforce as i dont like posessed, but they give you great conversion bits and its good value for money anyway.
the strike force (the big box yeah?) is awesome. get it. if your going emperors children you can always buy sonic weapons from gw chaos marine bitz
Well, I know I'll be definitely using the CSMs and the Rhino, but is that worth $108?

Let's look at it this way.
USD price for the Battleforce is $90.
$35 for 10 CSM, $20 for the other 5 CSM, $35 for the Rhino. That's $85 right there.
For $5 more (USD) you get the Khorne Berzerkers as well as the Possessed, which you can either sell for a good bit of cash more than that $5, or you can use the bits yourself.
So yeah, I think it's worth it.
Awhile ago Madcat threw me an idea that can stand to be repeated
His suggestion was to use the 5 Possesed as bits, mix with the other 15 marines and then you can have 20 regular (and slightly cooler looking) CSM.
Id link the post but i cant find it
I would recomend the Renegade Strike Force too if its an option. You can always trade pieces of it to other CSM players. I traded my Landraider for a Preadator and was still ahead $$ wise.
"So, how did you become a Renegade Space Marine?"
"..... Tax evasion...."

The "A Smart Player Will..." theory is a complete paradox. If we make an assumption that everything we do is outsmarted, then theoretically we can never win.
I was thinking about buying the strike force a while back. What you need to do is figure out your army list first and then decide if you can make use of all the pieces now or eventually.
I figured that I probably wouldnt use the vindicator or the berzerkers, but the rest of the kit was very useful. You can find the strike force on ebay NIB for like $160-170 also. I actually found an auction selling all but the landraider from the strike force box for $70 so I would highly recommend ebay if you decide to go with a boxed set. GW prices are a major rip off.
Instead, as I sort of said above, add up the cost of all of the models that you WILL use, individually, then compare that cost to the boxed set. If it's within $10 or so (on the low side), and you get enough extra models, I'd say it's worth buying the set, even if you'll never use those extra models. You can always sell them, use them as bits, or heck, just give them to a mate who's getting into the game.
Can't really go wrong with free models!
