I have decided i need to get a nice painted 1500pt army, so i started making some lists, and made one for each god, and some others (more to do with tactics) i then decided i should go with one of the gods, and came to the decision Nurgle... (its quite strange, i normally play more Khorne style, but wanted to do some Nurgle)
What i really need help with is fluff and painting/modelling ideas. I remember seeing someones Nurgle army on here before, where they used lots of modelling stuff to make there tanks look Nurgle, so im going ot try something like that for the Land Raider.
But what should i include in a Nurgle list, a outline of what i have is:
16 Plague marines
Dreadnaught (FW Nurgle dread looks awesome, it helped me make my mind up...)
then 3 oblits or 5 bikes.
I don't need the list to be wonderful, just to look good when complete.....
(i May eventually take this into a traitor guard army, and maybe even Daemons, and hvae 3 1500pt Nurgle armies)
I just wrote and deleted a new thread without posting it. It was about how everyone is starting up nurgle armies like a flood of nurgle. Nothing against you or anything just seems like a ton of people are starting nurgle lately. I think it is because they kinda took away our other non-dedicated legion options like alpha legion and iron warriors.
1)This is better off in two separate posts, one in the modelling section and another in the army list section, but since it's here I'll try to help out
2)Do a search for nurgle in the army list section and you will have tons and tons of lists to look at and get good ideas from the responses. They are the most popular chaos army at the moment so there will be plenty of posts.
3)Typhus probably isnt a bad idea for a HQ, but I would choose either 2 DPs or none because they are a great target. Plague marines should be a solid core of units, but don't forget about regular csms (with or without icon of nurgle). Terminators are nice, go with Karmoon's special setup if you want to keep them. You can take a land raider if you want but I find them to be a lot of points for not a lot of punch, there is also a rule about not taking just one tank because it makes it a great target to shoot at with anti-vehicle weapons. Dreadnought - it looks great but they arent amazing for chaos, 1/3 of the time you will not be in control of it and it could blow some of your units away pretty easily if you roll badly, or it will charge something it can't be effective against or has weapons to tear it apart easily. Bikes - I don't like them but to each his own, I prefer raptors because they are cheaper and have the same options otherwise, and I hate the look of bikes. Oblits, they're ok for filling in the gaps in your weapons (ie if you need anti-vehicle they can provide it if your opponent brings a lot of vehicles, or the same for infantry), but don't go crazy with them, they only get one shot apiece.
The unit you havent mentioned that I would recommend heavily is a squad of either chosen with meltas/flamers/plasma or havocs with autocannons (8 shots in a squad of 4-6 , shots that can take out light vehicles or infantry equally well) or plasma/melta/flamers and a rhino.
Thanks, with your third point a lot of that i have wondered about, but i'm just not sure, half of the reason for doing nurgle is the modelling/painting, and i want at least one tank, and i just don't like Rhino's very much at the moment, my plan for that list was:
Sent Daemon Prince and Land Raider (with Terms and Typhus in) and then bikes if there where in it (Chosen will probably be just as good, and cheaper leaving more room for upgrades on the plague marines) sit the plagues and dreadnought back and defend with them... maybe the Daemon prince depending on what army im playing against.
I want to keep the Dread because he looks really good (and i don't want to buy it not to use it)
That has helped me in decision making.....thanks
Firstly, Typhus costs too much for 1500 pts, don't use him. Secondly, Rhinos are a must in every army list. Plague marines are tough but not invincible, they will be slaughtered if you try to footslog them. Rhinos, though they aren't the toughest tank, have a better chance of running your troops up the field than just walking, it gives your guys more survivability.
you havn't really read what i have said there, anyway i am not taking Typhus out of my army, he is the leader.... its the whole reason i am doing this, and if i win easily with abbadon who basically is min cost 500pts because he needs a Land Raider, i think Typhus will do fine.
The plague marines will not be foot slogging, they will hide
sorry if i seem a bit off, its just i mainly wanted this to chose how to fill my last 250pts, and see what really should be included in a Nurgle army....
no offense, but if you're gonna shoot down advice why ask for it?
you're spending almost 500 points for your HQ's, and then taking a land raider on top of that. I'm sorry, but anything other than annihilation, and you'll get destroyed.
With your last 250 pts, add a third squad of Plague Marines, 2 squads is too small to win objective games with. Also, make sure your marines are equiped with 2 meltaguns or flamers and a Plague Champ w/ Power Fist.
I still stick by what I was saying about Typhus being too expensive, but if you're dead set with using him, then by all means.
Fielding an effective Nurgle army at 1500 points is difficult already, but you are really pushing the envelope in the 'shoot yourself in the foot' category. Plague Marines are tough, but they are expensive and still very vulnerable to heavy weapons and power fists. It looks like you've created a list around just what you think looks cool rather than what is effective. If that is your thing, so be it. If you are trying to build a competitive list then you really should just scrap it and start over. You'll look pretty on turn 1 but you'll get your head caved in by an intermediate player.
