Being a newer CSM player, I am very curious about how some people rate their units. I just wanted to hear how others would rate their troops on their own scale, hq choices (including special characters) Elites, fast attack, and Heavy choices and why the model at the tops of those lists, are at the top. These are all done pound for points so if they are worth their cost and how good they are. unfortunatly i don't really have a feel for CSM at all so here is my list
CSM, Khorn, Plague, Noise, 1k sons. CSM is at the top because i see that they can play what ever wy they want. they can shoot or they can attack and they are good at both. they can also take meltas flamers or other fun special weapons
HQ: Abaddon, typhus, DP, Chaos Sorce, Lucius.
With all the stories ive heard about him, all i've wanted to do is use and abbuse him. he is by far the scariest HQ choice i have seen and im sure most opponents would agree
Fast attack: Raptors, Bikes,
What can i say? they are better then bikes
Elites: Termies, Chosen
i hated playing against termies so i know they were good, but i never really see them in too many lists... why?
Heavy... i have no idea about what is good with heavy only because i still havent played a game... i dont have any idea about how good certain things are at poping tanks
Troops = 1k sons are my favorite to use but I would say all of the troops are very solid and how effective they are just depends on what else is in the list.
HQ = Daemon Prince, then Abaddon, I don't use anything else and mostly just use Daemon Price I know a lot of people scream cheese at lash princes but they are IMO the 2nd most cost effective unit in all of 40K with bloodcrushers first. Even non lash princes are very effective. Abaddon is just a walking god for the most part his only downside is the fact he is walking.
Elites = only one I use is terminators.
Fast = only one I use is raptors and even then not very often cause I use all my points on other stuff.
Heavy = Obliterators followed by defilers. Obilerators are just so all around useful which is basically impossible for any other heavy to do a well for the points. Defilers are good cause with all the rhinos and a DP or two you really over whelm the enemies anti-tank.

I don't play Chaos, but I can imagine and plenty of games at my store do.
HQ = Lash Prince. Best single model in the game point for point. Won't make a lot of friends, but some people don't care.
Elites = Chosen. Very flexible and many people aren't used to Marines with guns in their back field.
Troops = Plague Marines. Rock hard, great guns, good in CC. Again, very flexible and amazing objective holders.
Fast Attack = Bikers. Fast, can take Meltas, able to get a great save when they need it, can assault troublesome gun units.
Heavy Support = Obliterators. Great in every game and always a headache for the enemy. They're hard to kill and can even Deep Strike. Shows off CSM flexibility like no other.
I really like units that can do what I want, when I want. :]

HQ: Daemon Prince with wings and Mark of Khorne
Elite: I don't use any elite choices, but I'd use Chosen before Terminators.
Troops: CSMs, then Berserkers, Plague Marines, Noise Marines, Thousand Sons
Fast Attack: I have some Raptors and occasionally use them, but really I don't think any FA choices deserve to be put on a pedestal.
Heavy Support: Land Raiders, then Obliterators (in large games, I like Havocs 'cause they're a lot like extra troops squads)
Once again, the conservative, sandwich-heavy portfolio pays off for the hungry investor!
HQ: Daemon Prince, MoN, wings, Warptime. 175
Elites: None really.
Troops: 7 Plague marines, Champ, PF, 2 melta. 221
Fast: Nurgle blight drones from FW. 125
Heavy: Vindicator. 125
Quorn! - Protein for the Protein God.
Troops: Berzerkers, followed closely (very closely) by Plague Marines. The Berzerkers because I love the fluff and they fit my playstyle and the PMs because it's fun to watch so many try to kill them and fail.
HQ: Kharn, Warptime Prince then Lash Prince. Again, Kharn due to fluff and playstyle, Warptime Prince is also due to the fact I love the hardhitting playstyle and Lash Prince is obv.
Fast Attack: Raptors all the way! Love to get them flying along side a prince and the fact they are 13 pts cheaper than a biker helps.
Elites: Chosen are the only ones I use, tried Termies before but I wasn't a fan.
Heavies: Oblits, and Defilers are tied and the good old Land Raider makes a close second. I like oblits because of how versatile they are and love defilers because of the very Khorne feel they have. Land Raiders are just beasts and are a very nice ride for Kharn!
7 nurgle with PF and melta x2 in a rhino
7 Khornites with PF in rhino
Elites: (this is my end-cap filler point units, Body count and special weapon count may shift)
Chosen x6 melta x3
Chosen x6 plasma x3
Demon prince with lash and wings (if armored lists)
Chaos sorc with lash and wings (if all infantry list)
Chaos sorc with lash (if I'm low on points)
Pred with LCx2
Vindicator with DP
Raptors x 14 with MoN and melta x2 and PF. (super expensive, massive gun magnet)
Rapters x8 with MoK + PF + Melta x2 (Moderately expensive, kills most things quite well)
HQ Kharn - Deadly in close combat, can easily kill 5+ models on the charge.
Elites Don't use elites very often, deep striking terminators with combi-plasma/melta are probably my number 1 elite choice though.
Troops Plague Marines - I like these because of their great survivability and ability to take 2 special weapons on smaller sized squads than chaos space marines.
Fast Attack Never used fast attack.
Heavy Support Predator with autocannon, heavy bolters and havoc launcher - Good against a wide variety of targets, mainly infantry, heavy infantry and monstrous creatures but the autocannon is also decent against light armour. Due to its long range it can usually avoid nasty anti tank weapons such as meltaguns, also opponents normally prioritise shooting the rhinos speeding towards them over the predators, so it usually survives the battle relatively intact.
I would have to say:
HQ: Daemon Prince with MoTzeentch, Wings, Warptime
Elites: 3 Termies with Combi-Meltas or a Karmoon Special
Troops: Berzerkers in Rhinos kill everything and anything; then Lesser Daemons
Fast Attack: I like Nurgle Bikes so I can summon Daemons close to the enemy lines
Heavy Support: My list is very aggressive so I go Defilers and then Obliterators
And those are my picks.
Armies: (Chaos) Space Marines [1250pts], O&G [2250 pts], OK [1000pts]
Da face of Mork looks down on the Gobbers of da Bwoo Moon, da bestest Gobbos eva.
HQ: Sorceror with warptime and MoS. An effective, cheap assassin.
Elites: I like my Possessed.
Troops: No clear favorite. I use lots of Noise Marines.
Fast Attack: None now. Used to be Raptors.
Heavy: Either Obliterators or Land Raiders. With CSM's focus on close combat, the supporting fire from Oblits is most welcome.
