Whats your thoughts on combiweapon spam?
Like a CSM unit with dual meltaguns and a champion and rhino with combimeltas. That's 4 meltashots!
How would you fit that in into an army?
Thoughts, ideas and brainstorming please.
"The more choices you force the opponent to make, the better the chance for you to capitalize on his mistakes"
I tend to take them in a few squads but don't SPAM them.
For example, I may take one squad as follows
10 CSM: ICon: 2 meltas, champ with fist and combi-flamer
Give good all round fire and gives some versatility.
I think that vesatility is the key benefit of combi-weapons.
Combi's suck most of the time. 4 Melta shots, unless the Rhino loses a gun or is Immobilized far away, or Wrecked, or Shaken....or Stunned. So if they poke AV11...might not have great success. I find them not to be needed are Sarges, 2 shots is usually enough and if you REALLY need a tank dead you can gang 2 units on it, or shoot a Vindicator, Oblits/Havocs/Defiler at it.
Combi's aren't a waste on Terminators because they can DS with an Icon and fire them to full effect, if you want on demand anti-armor, load Termies up with Meltas and use Icons. Watch them bust up the armor and than have your guys Bolter/Melta and possibly charge the remains.

Overall I agree with The Prince of Excess.
Certainly Combis make sense for Terminators, and they can use -Plasma, and -Melta equally well, though there seems little point (in an all-rounder list) in giving them -Flamers, when the Heavy Flamer is so cheap.
I have had good results with Combi-Meltas for my HQs. Winged Lord running with Raptors can be very effective anti-tank, with the Lord using his shot vs. 13/14 armour usually.
The upgrade cost for Aspirings, and the fragility of Rhinos for me, mean that there's little poimt on giving them Combis.
Imagine having the temporary firepower of a plasma gun havoc squad, but which counts as a troop choice. That's what combi-plasmas gives our marines, that is, the option of rapid firing eight high strength shots into enemy infantry units.
Spambot kill tally. . .337
Combi-weapons are an upgrade of a bolter.
Lemt, I think you're just misunderstanding. I do believe Rabbit is referencing Combi-Plasma's - ergo, four rapid fire shots from the special weapon troopers, two from the Champion and two from the Rhino. We're all pretty aware (I hope) that you can't rapid fire Meltaguns.
I generally agree with the others, on Rhino's it's nice, but a little risky for the cost, I know my Rhinos in paticular don't spend much time shooting (mostly dying and sitting still when I don't want it to). But a combi-melta on a Rhino could be a very nice surprise for your enemy, I wouldn't pay for it standard, but perhaps with some extra change.
Combi-Plasma's are a NO-NO on Aspiring Champions, don't do it, you'll be sorry (I promise).
Combi-meltas on a Champion are best when paired with a Melta-toting unit, otherwise they'll be stopping all fire output to let one guy roll the dice. It's nice to all rounders (meaning a combi-melta with Plasmaguns) but I think overall inefficient. And generally if they are in a spot where only a meltagun can save them then it's probably over anyway yes?
Just some thoughts.
Oh right, I was thinking combimeltas, my bad.
I really think combimeltas are usually worth it, but still prefer getting a normal melta if I can. Sure it doesn't allow you to assault, but you can shoot that S8 AP1 shot every turn, and that's worth a lot for me.
