Evening folks. So, at the end of this month my local gw is holding a gaming event where a team of nid players fight off against a team of armies of every other race. I'm joining on the "other" team with my Daemons. Players on this team are given 1500 pts and well, nothign else really to fight off the nids. So, I was thinking about bringing something like this-
Skull Taker (I was told that the nids are no longer immune to instant death, so I thought he would end any nid monster he looked at.)
4 Fiends of Slaanesh w/ Unholy Might
5 Fiends of Slaanesh w/ Unholy Might
9 Horrors of Tzeentch w/ Icon & Changling
9 Horrors of Tzeentch
Soul Grinder w/ Phlegm
Soul Grinder w/ Phlegm
1 Daemon Prince of Tzeentch w/ Unholy might, Iron Hide, Soul Devour & Instrument of Chaos
I was also told that the 2/3 of all the players attending where playing on the nids side, which worries me a little. Not so much the fact that they are most likely going to be a prime example of power creep (actually I lie, a am not to excited to see what they can do now) but the evening in teams. but I imagine that the GW staff have something in mind to deal whit such a thing.
I was wondering if anyone had already faced off against the new nids (with daemons) and had any advice/ war stories with their encounter. I only ever fought the old nids once and with CSM (they went down easy, but I fear that will never be the case again.)
With the loss of eternal warrior, skulltaker is actually viable if you know for certain that you're going to be fighting Tyranids.
I'd consider splitting one of the units of horrors into 2 units of 5, each with bolt. This will add some bolts and objective grabbing to the list.
I'm not sure if bloodletters are a good idea. They're likely to get stuck in the hordes, where their ability to ignore armor saves will pretty much go wasted. I think plaguebearers might be a better choice, since they'll always wound on 4+, with a re-roll to wound against most of the enemy infantry.
I recently played a new nid army, and found that the fiends weren't too useful. I would've much rather had bloodcrushers, or another monstrous creature. Fiends don't have the power to really combat enemy monstrous creatures, and more importantly, their initiative is lower than genestealers.
I'd definitely make the daemon prince a prince of nurgle, to add to his toughness, and more importantly, give him noxious touch (wounding monstrous creatures on 2+ is great) and cloud of flies. I'd also give him flight, so he can get where he needs to go. Unholy might isn't necessary if they have noxious touch.
If there's one thing I would've loved to have in my match against the new nids it's soul grinders with phlegm (to help against those pesky genestealers), and 1-2 keepers of secrets. Their initiative 10 would've been very valuable, and their combat ability is second to none, especially if you give them unholy might and musk.
"Any job worth doing, is worth doing with a powerklaw."
Thanks for the info.
I was thinking of the Horrors to take care of the Genestealer squads and get the Fiends to deal with the 500+(Insert any infantry model that is not a genestealer.)
I thought about the Nurgle approach for the Daemon Prince, he would deal damage beyond a doubt, but the problem is that when he gets attacked, the T 6 won't help to much against str 7-9 creatures and would only have a +5 Inv save. I am not sure what the LD score is of the new monstrous creatures are, but a Tzeentch Daemon Prince could instant kill them with Soul Devour and benefits from the +4 Inv save of the defense.
I put the bloodletters in their mostly because I love the models and don't get to use them that often. None the less, you are still right. I might opt them out for more horrors and put Skulltaker on a Chariot or a Juggernaut.
I thought about a Keeper of Secrets, but money is a bit tight right now between living, going to school and being a nerd. It would be cool to have one, but going out to pay $70 (*Canadian) to get a model that I would only use a few times doesn't seem like the best budget idea.
Maybe I just need more Horrors. Also I was thinking about Herald spamming chariots. I was thinking about adding a Chariot of Slaanesh w/ Unholy Might, A Tzeentch Chariot w/ Bolt/ Master of Sorcery, and possibly a chariot of Khorne, then my last HQ would be Skulltaker on a Chariot.
Ive played agianst the new nids at a 2k point lvl. Instant death is very awsome to be able to do now! But I would not take the keep of secrets just becuase of the new lashwhips. Your I 1. no if ands or buts. I would rather take a blood thirster instead of the keeper.
One unit i found helpful is the soul grinder. the nids still have a hard time taking out these puppies, only thier carnifexes in CC can really do it, plus w/ phlegm they are taking out those warriors left and right.
I can see daemonettes being usefull becuase of thier high I agianst things without lash whip and tons of attacks.
Blood letters are just as scary when dealing with the swarms.. Handing out a ton of unsavable wounds means that they will likely win combat by a lot.. If in synapse range that's a LOT of extra wounds (fearless).
I'm not saying they are better or worse than the others I'm just saying that they do very well against the gribblies.
