I just got into warhammer 40k and had a few questions. To begin, I am running a Chaos space marine army and am having some trouble putting together a list of things to get. First off I will be playing a lot against Space wolves and Raven guard, so I was looking for a few pointers as well as some advice on structuring a balanced army. Next, I was wondering if Abaddon is worth all the points and should I consider using him?
BTW here is what I have so far:
Chaos Space marine sorcerer
Chaos space marines squad x2
Possesed Chaos space marines
any advice on what to field would be most appreciated!

Welcome to Warhamer 40k and Librarium Online!
Abaddon Is not really worth his points in games smaller then 2000-2500. When playing Khorne you want one thing, Berzerkers! I don't know how many points you will be playing on an average, but at 1500 points you should have about 3-4 berzerker squads in rhino's, and maybe one in a land raider. A squad of 8 with a skull champ with a power fist, and a rhino clocks in at right under 250 points. Remember, when using berzerker to always get the charge off on your opponent. Another thing to remember: Nothing is better than a berzerker squad in combat... Nothing!!!! Also, use Defilers to take the anti tank of your opponent off of your Rhinos. With a battle cannon, fleet, and an absurd number of attacks, it makes short work of everything. Also, don't feel like you only need to run berzerkers. Regular Chaos marine with a mark of Khorne, 2 melta guns and a rhino are mean in combat and can pop tanks.
Terminators! These are the main tank killing power of most Chaos armies. You will want to run them in a squad of 3-4 with combi melta's or Plasma's. They turn they come in, get them as close to a vehicle in it side or back arc as you can.

The Wolf time is upon us!
Rep for the Rep God! Positive for the Positive Throne!
Armies: Space Wolves, Imperial Guard, Emperors Children, Necrons, Eldar
Until you get some experience I'd just run a mix of all the different types of lists (understand that by doing that it won't be a tourny winning list... most of the time)
Here's an idea: Put CSM in rhinos and mark them. Use them to call in termies with abaddon (hopefully very close to the enemy) Use the possesed as support for csm in CC and the bezerkers should be good on their own hiding behind rhinos or use the other rhino for them (keep in mind that they can't charge out of the rhino) Daemon Prince with the lash to bring guys closer to you or out of the way depending. If you use the sorcerer give him tzeentch so he can have more than one psychic power. Just a suggestion. Half the fun is seeing what kind of list you can create. Hope this helps

You've got a good pile of minis for starters. Considering you'll probably start with smaller lists, I'd say you could go with what you have, and just add some heavy options. Get a Rhino, or Land Raider for those 'Zerkers. Then, consider what route you want to go for heavies. The ever popular Oblits? More tanks on the field with Preds? Scary walking beasts with Defilers? They each have their place, and as you play more games, you'll probably settle into a play style you'll want to tailor your choices towards. That might mean buying more stuff ... but this isn't really a hobby for those who are concerned about that.
If you just play with friends, you can always proxie things until you settle, too.
