Bikers n' Defilers.
How effective might this teaming be? If it absolutely must happen, what tactics would you choose, what weaponry would each have, how many would you use?
This was a suggested challenge in our group; I failed this first time to utilize them ( badly played honestly ), but I'm intrigued and wish to see how far can one take this combo effectively. What are your thoughts?
My thoughts are that i can find nothing wrong with defilers, and for playing bikes are great, its just that they are too expensive for what they do. if they cost as much as a vanilla bike you would probably see more of them. As it is currently most people seem to neglect the FA slot as not being cost effective, Which is different than not effective. Just better places to put the points
My thoughts are "You're a mad man!" and "Don't do it!"
Chaos bikers are just overpriced. All of the FA options are. You should take this challenge back to your group: Vindicators, and how well they go with other Vindicators.
The Wolf time is upon us!
Rep for the Rep God! Positive for the Positive Throne!
Armies: Space Wolves, Imperial Guard, Emperors Children, Necrons, Eldar
As the others have said, I'd avoid this, our Fast Attack options are weak sauce. But, if you must....It seems clear to me that your Bikers are going to have to be rocking Meltaguns (most likely) to help offset the loss of Heavy Support ranged AT. Just make sure that whenever your Defilers are 'pie-plating' near your bikers that they are Turbo-Boosting - it'd be a cosmic loss to lose bikers to anything except enemy fire. The good part about this combo, is that the bikers can hold some units into CC long enough for the Defilers to make it up there fairly safely if you can assault the 'dangerous' units (to a Defiler anyway). I'd also consider adding a Biker Lord to one squad, as the more CC punch you have, the less time they'll spend stuck in some stupid CC and therefore less likely to waste your points by sitting around doing nothing. And, don't neglect their shooting either, they do have Combi-Bolters if I recall correctly, which means they can actually outshoot most regular CSM squads, especially at close range.
Be sure to use cover VERY effectively, these guys are a lot of points (bikers I mean) and you need them safe for as long as you can until you're ready to do whatever. In fact there's a pretty in depth tactica in the 40K Tactica forum about SM bikers, obviously it's a little different than ours would be, but many of the same principles apply I'd imagine. Bikers can be a wonderful asset with their speed, you can snag/deny objectives without your opponent expecting it or you can take out those little useless objective baby sitters, like Scouts or Lesser Daemons (Gaunts?).
On the whole I'd avoid bikers, but they can be useful with some luck and skill just not as useful as some others. Good luck man, I think your best bet is just massive amounts of play testing - it's the best way to learn, have one of your buddies proxy some different armies and go to town (or sack it in our case).

V pas E,
What general tactics are you considering? That might be a good place to start. Also, a rough army list would help.
Spambot kill tally. . .337
Well that's just the thing isn't it- our vindicators, oblits, and preds are relatively safe options; our fast attack options aren't; defilers work well with dreds etc... we're comfy with this stuff, know it works, and it'll see exclusive usage when we want to have a shot at winning. A challenge it is to win with a *perceived* inferior army makeup.
Every army type got its own challenge, so it not like some player, flustered playing against us, rudely challenged the play styles of every chaos gamer.
Oh, I'm not asking for my sake. Just curious how other players would treat this combo if they had to.
If you go crazy and run a 5+ unit of Bikers (I did it once, as a joke), go ahead and give them the Nurgle Icon..T4(6) Bikers are fun.

Question - by saying 'Defilers" I assume that you all ready have 2? If so, I strongly suggest taking a third. 3 Defilers are usually an extremely effective force. They can threaten everything in the game, and scare the pants off your enemy.
