Hi, i am thinking about starting a chaos marine army, to make a change from my ultramarines. Now after a look i think khorne rules but i wanted some advice on whats the best way to run a chaos army, for the minute i am looking at creating about 1000 points then going from there. Thanks in advance
Well with khorne you core is likely gonna be 2 solid squads of berzerkers and off course a khorne lord but don't bother with the khorne deamon weapon, it's a great risk you take with it.
To back them up you should also look at getting some reliable fire support, personally I prefer obliterators for this as they have a weapon for every task.
If you want some extra guns you can also take for instance a unit of csm with an icon of khorne, just make sure you keep that icon alive long enough, 2 special weapons is the preferred set up for a csm sqaud.
Everything Dreachon said is solid advice, however, you could also go with Kharn the Betrayer instead of a Lord for some extra fluff (he's also really badass). I'd also look into getting a Defiler or 2 as they're incredible due to their Battle Cannon and CC finess. Pretty much, if you're looking to make your Khorne army fluffy, put as much focus on CC and less focus on long range shooting and psykers as you can and you'll be off to a great start.

khorne hate physkers anyway. what about a demon prince or are they only good with magic?
The most used power is warptime which is very usefull for a DP but even without psychic power the DP is a steal for the points it costs, give it a set of wings, MoK and your done with it.
I dont play csm myself but have fought against khorne flakes alot to know what kills the most. Bezerkers are a must as mentioned but in addition to, plague bearers. Though not khorne or blood for the blood god type, these bad boys provide good cover for you bezerkers (which you will benifit from because any smart general targets them first and foremost) Even if it s just one squad (they are a tad expensive points wise) I see they make a virtually impenetrable meat wall for the more powerful units behind.
Hope, is the first step on the road to disappointment.
how do the plague bearers work? are they demons or normally marines. that is the other army i am thinking of nurgle and khorne for the win!
i have read a few battle reports in, and faced them once, they destroyed my assault marines and forced me to use a landraider redeemer on them, so yes theym and some khornite dudes are gonig to be my backbone along with a lot of defillers
I roll as mostly Khornate in army composition. Kharn is wicked awesome and so are Zerkers. In fact I've won every fight vs. Space Marines... Black Templars to be more detailed. My CC just over whelms him. Of course it might have more to do with the commander. He allows his elites to do all his work for him, while I use my troops. Anyways, I swap back and forth between 1-2 Deamon Princes with wings and Kharn for HQ. Then fill up to 3 troop slots with Bezerkers in Rhinos and 1-2 slots of either CSMs or Plaguers. Elites I usually stick to the Karmoon Special or a Melta version of it, and Heavys are Defilers or Preds... I don't use fast attack.
