I have recently purchased the new Blood Angels codex, and reading through it have decided to use it for my Khorne army.
As far as I can tell, there is no real downside to this.
This codex makes a fast, in your face, elite hacky-slashy marine army. It has incredibly powerful, unique HQs, (and when I say incredibly powerful, I mean cheesy-beardy-overpowered...) Strong troops that are slightly unhinged, really neat fast attack choices, units that really (more like insanely) buff other units, and Dreadnoughts that actually work.
Fluff-bunnies will recoil at the inclusion of Psykers in a Khorne army... Somebody suggested that it's not psychic powers, but instead the will of Khorne channeling through those guys...
Anyway, I think that this codex will have great possibilities for Khorne players.
Here is what I plan on making -
Most of my marine choices will be pretty straightforward, using my chaos models. I have a big Raptor squad as well as a bunch more that can finally come out to play, and I collected a huge number of the possessed wings, to make more assault troops.
For bikes, I will use the new plastic WFB Chaos Knights, converting them to power armor as much as possible.
The attack bike will be something like a chariot, I'm not really sure yet.
Furioso dreads will be my Bloodthirsters.
Sanguinary priests will probably look like DA Apothecaries with Khorne bling. I need to come up with something to model as a blood chalice.
EDIT - Sept '10 - The big Khorne-using-BA-Codex army is still in mind, but I am specifically building an all-bike army using the vanilla SM codex. It will look Chaosy and Khornite, but the SM codex works a bunch better than any other. (Yes, I looked at Ravenwing, it's awfully compelling, but...) Basically it will be a White Scars army gone really, really, evil.
Thats a good idea Aeroplane.
After last weekend I decided to do the same thing. Dont forget to try a Stormraven Gunship
But seriously, the BA codex makes me wish there could be options like that in the CSM book.
"So, how did you become a Renegade Space Marine?"
"..... Tax evasion...."
Looks like I'm not the only one who is going to use the blood angel codex with my CSM.
The special caracters are just nuts in the blood angel codex. And rhinos moving fast are just to good to pass up.
I already have 2 units of CSM with MoK, 2 melta guns, aspiring champ with fist in rhinos that are used as assault marines. Use my berzerkers as death company. Troops are now covered. Use CSM dreads with 2 dread close combat weapons as furioso dread. Use predators as heavy support that I already have. Use a raptor squad as a fifth troop choice et voila army list is complete. Pick any HQ available (their all good) and us a chaos lord to represent the model.
Aeroplane, as a blood calice you can just use a skull. Khorne loves skulls and it can "inspire" units.
"Iron Within, Iron Without"
Sounds like a great idea to me, the rules make something like this really easy to do. Looks like GW finally released a Khorne army book
I can't wait to see what Chaos gets. If BA can be that killy and FNP spam, imagine what Khorne and Nurgle (the meleekilly and FNPspam GODS) are going to get!
Ha, thats ironic. Before the BA Codex came out I used Khorne Bezerkers to represent Blood Angels.
They're all good ideas Aeroplane. Are you going to use normal Assault Marines as Khorne Troopers and Death Company as Proper World Eater Bezerkers? reason i ask is that DC aren't scoring so a Full army would (be very fun) be pretty hard to win with.
Thinking about it, Seth would make quite a good Kharn the Betrayer.
Sounds good to me. The DC Dreadnaughts would be good for Khorneate Dreads too. Fleeting WS5 Dreads ignoring stunned and Shaken results...........with lightning Claws.
What are you going to represent Sanguinerary Priests with fluffwise? Khornate Chaplins/Heralds? I can't see Khorne worshiping Apothecaries. They'd get carried away and end up decapitating their mates.
