ill go out there and say it, im pretty cheep when it comes to buying things... i was wondering, is it against any rules (looked in the 40k rulebook, couldn't find it, if it is... please direct me to a page) but is there anything that stops me from using the fantasy bases for my 40k models?
cheers in advance

No, and many people do just that, although some tournaments have restrictions on base sizes.
The general consensus is that it's alright as long as the square base is at least as large as the round base the model would normally use in 40k. You might need your opponent's permission, however, and if at any time your opponent feels it's giving you an unfair advantage, they are allowed to request that you temporarily substitute the model with a round base of the appropriate size.
In short, using square bases is fine, but keep some round bases of the appropriate sizes handy.

According to the brb as long as you use the bases supplied with the models you're ok. And since daemons come with both, pick whichever you want! The square one do have a bit of a drawback in 40k, as its easier to clip a corner with a template tho.
but its easier to keep coherency when multi assaulting things, turning them like diamonds. I did this in a recent tournament with blood crushers and i felt like a cheater afterwards haha. but in short, yes you can use them. and i do. So i can play fantasy with them.
Eldar -APOC- 6500 Points
Chaos Daemons -Fate Crusher- 3500 Points
Grey knights - 1000 Points
All I need to do is pick up a WFB Daemons codex...rulebook...and find people to play against. :p
If in doubt, magnetize the feet and the bases so you can swap for 40k/fantasy
Or just use the circular bases, there are movement trays made for them/easily made.
