I don't know if you know the term. where I live, brainstorming is a commonly known term. we use it when were thinking of something, usually with more people, and everybody can come up with ideas, a concept anything. Usually the idea is to make a decision, or gather information to work out, or solve a problem.
so here's the problem:
I like thousand sons rulewise, but not modelwise. I hate the Egyptian theme, i think that thing on there head is too big, and kinda lame.
So I'm gonna convert em, but I can't kinda think of a way. I was thinking about a group of sorcerers, but how will I model them?
would a group of monks look cool? I would prefer something sinister. there chaos after all.
one important note: they'll be painted Iron Warrior style.
so, to the brainstorming session: keep the ideas coming. I'm up for anything!
IRON WITHIN .....
So they even know about brainstorming in the eye of terror, do they? Well well...
I'm still trying to get my head around what you're after, though. You want to use Thousand Sun rules, but Iron Warriors colours? Are they for an Iron Warriors army or are they just going to be a small part of a mixed force?
Well, with my questions out of the way, I'll try some ideas...
Using Dark Angel bits to get the robes (sort of like your monk idea)
Equip them all with staves? (Staffs?)
Some scenic bases? Having a model standing in a swirling mist, or sorcerous flames
Or maybe... Seeing as you mentioned Iron Warriors, could you steam-punk some normal marines up a bit, have them near covered in exotic weapons with cables and cogs all over the place, so in effect they're using machinery to substitute for the effects of sorcery?
I'm not sure if any of those ideas would be of all that much use to you.
