I am about to buy the battleforce but all over the net is people saying how much they dislike the possessed, and i would have to agree with their points, however, i would still like the parts for them considering i want everything else from the battleforce to start me off for a small tournament (750 singles) that is coming up in a month or so.
How could i use force's bits to build a decent army. I was thinking that i could use the possesed with some spare bolt guns (and give the standard marines a bp/ccw) to make plague marines (the plague mutated them instead of bloated them?) and throw in 2 of the combat marines with some deamony parts as well to fit the total seven everyone is obsessed with. I could then use 2 of the remaining marines to add them to my korne zerkers leaving one combat guy left. if i gave him the better torso from the special weapons sprue and a cooler head from the same sprue i could make him a Chaos lord or sorcerrer using up all of the bits and giving me a playable army.
is this a feasible thinkg to do? Any suggestions? And what should i give to each squad considering the fact that i only get 1 flamer, melta and plasma etc.
On a different note, what is the advantage of choosing 1 chaos god to follow (or undivided), wouldn't it be better to have that variety of different skills in the army?
Victory points for the victory point God!!
As for using the Possessed bits, a lot of people use the arms and heads on Chosen or even Aspiring Champs, to show they are more favoured by the gods. As for using their torsos, I'm not entirely sure what their models are like as I don't own any, but so long as they are closer to regular marines, throwing a marine head and some regular weapons on them, you may be able to use them as any Marine, or if they're bodies are too different, again, swap their heads and arms and use them as Chosen.
Choosing to use only units of one god over the other doesn't really give you any sort of big advantage, it's just more so for your play style and for fluff reasons. As for using units from all the gods, it also doesn't really give you much of an advantage, as it would be easier for your opponent to pick off a threat to their army, ie Tau picking off your one unit of Berzerkers will stunt your CC game against them. I would suggest choosing a max of 2 gods to use, you'll have enough of each on the table so as to not get stunted by a round of shooting, and you won't have any really disadvantages to play style.
World Eaters: W-47 D-10 L-9
Necrons: W-19 D-3 L-2
Protectorate of Menoth: W-36 D-0 L-7
mixing the possessed parts into your csm will give you 20 CSM with a mutations enough that none of them are the same as any other. CSM come with a bolt pistol, CCW, and boltgun, so you do not need to model any of them to be considered as having them, you really only need to model special weapons like melta and power weapons or power fists.
there is an article on GW site in chaos about converting standard CSM into a cult troop. though there is not a specific advantage of any of the cult troops as the cost generally means you give up numbers to have them.
in general i only give plasma guns to plague marines as they have defensive grenades and FNP which balances out the two main disadvantages of plasma. meltas give you good anti armor abilities and flamers give you great anti horde. what do you think you will be facing? whatever you do get a second special weapon.
Most competitive lists are mechanized, meaning you have rhinos for each unit. if you are going to go mechanized, go with armor in your heavy slots to pull shots from you low armor value transports, they are what will win you the game, the vindicator is there to scare your opponent and let your transports to where the need to be for you to win
I played a game today (using my standard marines to represent different things) and my plague marines fell quiuckly to an assault, is this normal as i know they should have some ability. Is the blight grenades just in there to provide an incentive to attack something else?
So after i get the battleforce i should get a rhino or three to bring my troops up for an assult and a vindicator to act as a fire magnet and anti anything that gets in my way.
What would the role of the chosen be? your paying 3 points per model to get to start mid-way down the field, separated from everything else.
What do you mean by cult troops, i cant find an article like that?
My main opponents are Space wolves then ultramarines, what "god" would be best suited to fighting these guys or should i just go with my play style of long range heavy weapons mixed with short range assault guys and get a havocs squad and go korne.

Post your army list here. That will help us evaluate the problem.
8x chosen with IoK
*3x plasma guns
*1x champ with fist
Cost-wise, they're competitive with our other troop choices. They also have a respectable amount of close range support fire and close combat attacks. I won't go into the tactics at this time, since I've posted them countless times in other threads.

Spambot kill tally. . .337
as rabbit said everything is situational. plague marines fall to power weapons and weapons twice their base T. their primary advantages are feel no pain, which gives them an additional 4+ save on any wound that does not ignore armor or is twice their base toughness. they are really good against foes that do not ignore their 3+ armor save. their blight grenades take away the +1A from charging, making them a great defending troop or allowing you to use weapons like plasma guns that if you rapid fire disallow you from charging.
Berserkers are our other most popular cult troop, if you can arrange to get the charge they get furious charge which can help them wrap up most close combats, they also have +1A over standard CSM , with furious charge that means they have 4A each, with a higher than MEQ (Marine EQuivilent, or your standard space marine) Weapon Skill, and higher Init and higher strength for better chance to wound, which generally translates into won combats. the only troop more feared in CC is a Genestealer brood.
general rule of thumb for chaos lists. always have rhino's for your troops, always give your aspiring champion a power fist (power swords can not harm dreadnoughts or vehicles) and a deamon prince (especially with warptime) will outperform all non character HQ and some characters.
heavy support is a matter of opinion.
defilers have great range, and are decent in an assualt, but have low armor.
vindicators have great high strength blast templates, decent armor, but very low range
preds can have better range and accuracy, with good decent armor, but.... well they just do not have some of the versatility i like
obilts have great versatility, the only thing i can say about them is they do not draw as much attention as a vindi or a defiler can
land raiders, have great armor, carry twin linked lascannons and can transport your berserkers into combat and allow them to charge the turn they disembark, but for their cost you could have bought another unit of berserkers and a transport for them.
in the end it is up to each player what they like. just remember, part of the purpose of chaos's heavy is to draw fire from your berserkers rhino, so they can get where they need to be to win you the game
again rabbit does not steer you wrong, chosen are incredibly versatile, you can equip them up with power swords and make an insane close combat unit, or tool them out with special weapons that jump out of their rhino and anniliate enemy formations, its all in how you equip them. sometimes forcing your opponent to react to you instead of you reacting to them is how the game is won, and no one wants a squad of chosen running around doing whatever you want them to, in their back field.
