Is the most recent Codex we have available considered 4th edition or 5th edition? Because I'm looking at the 5E codexes and they're ridiculous. pretty much all BA tanks are fast... or they can deep strike. WTF.
If ours is 5th edition, codex creep is a little ludicrous.
The copyright date is 2007 (in my copy anyway). 5th Ed arrived in 2008. The general plan behind the CSM codex AFAIK was to allow folks to build a sort of generic Chaos Renegade type army composition, with some input from the four Ruinous Powers, rather than more Legion-specific armies like Iron Warriors or Night Lords. Maybe we will see such codices released, allowing folk to put up true Chaos armies like IW, NL or even god-specific ones like Emperor's Children. That would be rather nice. *contemplates dreamily*

AFAIK it is not truly a 5th ed codex, it is a hybrid 4th/5th edition codex. That's the reason for it not having codex creeps, but truly since it came out before 5th ed rulebook then it would be a 4th ed codex, because it was made when 5th ed had not arrived, even if it was made whit 5th ed in mind.
P.S: Lexicanum agrees whit me ^^: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Code...s_(4th_Edition)
It was also written during a period where GW was toning down their Codex's. However, they realised this made the armies bland and unintersting and people were not buying then. So they have gone back to a more characterful codex with lots of shiny toys. A few books need to play catchup badly and chaos will get it at some stage.

The "A Smart Player Will..." theory is a complete paradox. If we make an assumption that everything we do is outsmarted, then theoretically we can never win.
