Hello all I have just decided to start playing warhammer 40K and after few months of reading and deciding which army to play with and lurking around many places including this chaos forum I have come to realized that I will join the power hungry ranks of chaos. I just think the models look awesome and that is the main reason I took them.
Don't get me wrong I wanna play and hopefully have fun and maybe win at some point, But painting models and creating an army that totally looks awesome is what attracks me the most.
So having clear that out I Obtained my first figure which whom will be the commander of my army. here is a pic.
His name is Azazel the collector.
Now, I wanna get my first unit of troops so here is where I need your help to do it right. could you guys suggest which units and equitment should I use? I am building a Black legion army so I thinking of getting regular CSM but I also think that Khorn berzerkers look brutal awesome and don't even get me started with the 1k sons.
So what do you guys think?

That's your first painted model? That's very impressive
If you are mainly enjoying the painting and collecting aspect of the hobby, I'd like to point out before anyone suggests some tournament list to you that it's entirely your decision! Maybe your army would be most effective being all Khorne Bezerkers in rhinos (I confess, I'm not very up to date on modern uber-lists...) but that would hardly be the most stimulating army to paint! My advice would be to start small, and maybe try painting a few of each model before investing in several units of any; one of the main advantages of playing Chaos, from what I can see, is that your army doesn't need a reason to bear contrasting colours. So see what happens as you go! I'd advise the CSMs first, both because they're a nice, all-round unit, and because (as shown in the codex, I think) it's entirely possible for you to field Bezerkers painted the same as your CSM, but with a Khornate shoulderpad, and if you find you really like the black and gold colour scheme you can maintain it through your army.
1) Don't overdose on units yet! Better to build up in small leaps so you can have a fuller understanding of rules and game mechanics first.
2) Paint them how you want! From your picture, it looks like you've certainly got more patience than I have, so make those units look just how you want
3) I almost hate myself for saying this, but remember the "most important rule"... Have fun! This hobby can be incredibly rewarding, and can stay with you for as long as you want it. Just remember, any advice here is advice, and what works for us may not work for you
May your respective Chaos deity watch over you, but better throw in a few prayers to the Dice Gods too!
Battlecries: Sorbr'and Tau force: For the Greater Good!
Ordo Corvus Witch Hunters: Only in our flames will the heretic find peace!
Like Shas'o just said, what you want is entirely your decision (not being fond of the tournament mentality I don't even have a playable army over 500pts (due to an unfortunate fixation with painting chaos lords)) and if you like the cult marines then go with them. I would also recommend getting a box of standard marines and scattering the bitz throughout your cult marines, just to make them go a bit further (cheating I know) but be sure to tack them together before you glue them, to help ensure you'll like the result. This has helped me avoid several models which seemed like a good idea until I actually put them together and wasted the bitz.
Thank you for your advice guys. I'm planing to start off with a 500 point army just to learn and build from there. Longshot, I'm going to take your advice first and continue with some CSM. and yes I want to keep the black, silver and gold on the entire army yet I want each model to be unique so maybe that where I'll try Thor's Idea of converting. I also want to experiment a little with green stuff which I haven't.
Now do you guys think the battleforce box is a good Idea to get? I see that I would use all the models there but the possessed CSM and even those can be used latter.
Standard Black legion units that work well are
10 CSM with 2 meltas, A PF champion and IoCG in a rhino. 255 points
Get two of these and your daemonprince and that is your minimums sorted out.
Black legion can also use cult troops. The codex shows some good examples of berserkers painted in black legion colours but also inclucing elements of the red uniform included. Cult coloured shoulder pads or helmets help to identify specialist troops while keeping an army theme together.
You can use cult squads in place of regular CSMs or in addition. Select some from this list
8 Berserkers with PF champ in a rhino for 243 points.
7 PMs with 2 plasmas, PF champ and rhino for 266 points.
6 Noise marines with sonic blasters for 150 points.
9 Thousand Sons with boombolt sorceror in rhino for 289 points.
Then get yourself some heavy support such as preds or vindicators. Termies are a good elite selection deepstriking off icons.
Chosen, possessed, spawn, havocs and dreads aren't that competetive.

Thanks mad cat, It really helps a lot. I think I have decided to start with the battle force box and then add the equipment. so I'm just going to save for it.
i went back to see the codex to see the examples wich I totally over looked when I was reading it. thank you for pointing them out. after I saw em I decided to play a little with a couple images of the cult CSM and photoshop and this is what I came up with.
what do you guys think?
I would totally go for the battle box. You can use all of it to part out a great beginning army. Possessed be damned. You can mix and match all the parts to get 28 CSMs of which ever flavor(s) you wish. You could use the possessed parts mingled with regular CSM parts for some Chosen. You could part up just 20 CSMs and make 8 Zerkers, or any melange there of. Very versatile Kit. Wish I would have thought of all that myself before I wasted my 5 Possessed. Live and learn. Your color scheme is looking great so far!
I agree mix in the possesed parts to make 20 regular CSM and ask around your gaming clubs to CSM and SM players for any spare special weapons and powerfists.

If you enjoy the painting aspect, go to your FLGS, and buy the boxes of 3 or so models. You can convert them well, if you buy Space Marines, or experiment if you buy CSMs.
Current Armies: Tau, Dark Angels, Wood Elves, Bretonnians
Side Projects: Imperial Guard, Dark Eldar, High Elves, The Empire
I just Updated the picture of my DP in my OP. I'm quite happy with the result and now I'm just going to have to wait for next month to get the battleforce set. can't wait!
