I was thinking about starting Traitor Marines at some point while i'm at uni, the World Eaters are one of the legions that interest me, but I don't know all the units that I could use to make a fluffy but effective force, can someone give any suggestions please?
Greetings. I am also starting a mono-Khorne Chaos Space Marines list. So far I've only played a couple games to test units out and I have found that a unit of Berserkers with a powerfist champ in a rhino accompanied by a lord with mark of khorne and a daemon weapon is absolutely devastating. In one 1000 point game I played they single handedly killed a 5-man sanguinary guard squad as well as mephiston while still surviving to capture the game-winning objective. Needless to say, I won't be leaving home without these guys any time soon. Another solid choice is a predator with autocannon and two lascannon sponsons. It's a solid, much-needed tank and transport destroyer in your otherwise troop-killing army. I'm also considering using a 10-man CSM unit with powerfist, mark of khorne, and two meltas. This unit will pop a big tank or, if there aren't any left, a transport, then get lodged in because 4 attacks each from a marine on the charge is nothing to sneeze at.
Thanks, are their any units that can hold objects that are fluffy for World Eaters.
That's a tough one. Since we are an assault army, it's a little tough for us to hold objectives as we will most likely be busy beating the opponent's brains in. However, berserkers can claim forward objectives when they are done hacking apart any enemy unit nearby, while the CSM unit I mentioned before can fall back to an objective and use bolters to defend it late-game. Unless you can find some way to use Plague Marines in your fluff, we don't really have a unit that can sit back and hold objectives. It'll be a late-game consolidation onto objectives for us.
Chaos is not traditionally an objective-squatting army. We don't have any units capable of filling this role with cost-effectiveness in mind. While Plague Marines are excellent candidates, they fall short once you factor in both their cost and their lack of long-range weaponry. We just can't expect to win games when we deposit on an objective 250 points of marines, whose best attribute is a couple of mid-ranged plasma shots." Doing so takes away support for our spearhead, which should be advancing on the enemy.
Overall, you're far better off advancing for the first 3-4 rounds, and then falling back to claim your home objectives.
Spambot kill tally. . .337
Rabbit hit the nail on the head there, we're not meant to squat on an objective, especially when playing with Berzerkers, who don't even have mid-range firepower.
For fluffy World Eater units you can never go wrong with Berzerkers in squads of 8 with a champ equipped with a powerfist. For your HQs, Kharn is nice, but I run with Daemon Princes with wings and Mark of Khorne. Chaos Lords can also be good equipped with mark of khorne and a power weapon (Daemon Weapons are WAY too self-destructive with MoK) but they're just not as good as a Prince. For your support units, Defilers are a must when going fluffy, equipped with 2 extra close-combat weapons (though i usually opt for 1 extra and keep the reaper autocannon) they are a devastating force. After all of that, i find Dreads with a missile launcher and a heavy flamer to be a very good support model, and the Crazed rule feels very fluffy in a World Eaters force.
World Eaters: W-47 D-10 L-9
Necrons: W-19 D-3 L-2
Protectorate of Menoth: W-36 D-0 L-7
So far with my WE army, I have stuck to tried and true, Zerkers in squads of 8 with Fist, and Rhino. I drop Kharn into a squad with a PW instead of a fist and go to town. I have Terminators for dropping large amounts of Plasma or Melta as needed. I have a Pred that is magnetized so I can swap its load-out. And a Defiler that is in mid conversion into a Brass Scorpion that will be magnetized as to lend to its continued use as a Defiler. Plan on picking up another Defiler and more Rhinos as I only have 2 for my 4 Zerker squads.
