I am a tau player and have a chaos daemons player. Played him a few times. Quite fun. Anyway i have wondered. How would you justify, fluff wise. A chaos daemon incursion into tau space considering that tau are pretty much non existent in the warp. Maybe you can justify it because the humans under tau rule are angry or something? Or something else. What ideas do you chaos daemons players have?
The human presence being a factor that draws in chaos is possible, but far more likely the Tau are invading an area dominated by the forces of Chaos, and seek to cleanse it, either to reclaim it, or to reclaim some sort of technology available there.
"Any job worth doing, is worth doing with a powerklaw."
Because they can.
That's all they need to be completely fluffy. It's that wide open, no fluff-contortions needed.
daemons arrive through warpstorms that are made by tears in reality time and space ect. they can happen absolutley anywhere and plus the very existance of tau would draw daemons in (them being mortals and all...) and plus daemons dont really have there own reasons for being anywhere there soul purpose is to follow there gods will and most of the time its just to kill kill kill!
THE DAY SHALL NOT SAVE THEM AND WE OWN THE NIGHT!
Noone is immune to the dark gods... who knows who's plans the etherals are fufilling?
You can't trust a race of sentient space cows...
And i reckon they could just be on an unlucky planet... there were tau and daemons (with choas men) on Medusa V for example
WORSHIP THE VINDICATOR!!! (And a Drop Pod full of Combie-Melta Sternguard never hurts either)
An artifact could be found, a rear Tau with a psychic presence could be born, a new race has an existing portal to the Warp open on the planet. An Imperial Inquisitor or Chaos Space Marine Warrior could have opened a gate to have daemons poor into the thick of battle against Xenos scum.
Thousands of stories can exist in the Warhammer 40K setting. Think of anything sci-fi and you can find a reason or setting. The only limit is what you lack.
Adversity is the first path to truth....He who hath proved war, storm, or woman's rage, whether his winters be eighteen or eighty, Has won experience which is deem'd so weighty. - Lord Byron, ca 788M1
To the dark gods the tau have no significants, as long as there blood is spilt the gods are pleased and also each of the gods desire TOTAL domination of everything, even existance it's self, to acheive this everything else must be eradicated... Including tau. They don't need to have any presence in the warp daemons pop up absoulutley any where and if they find you, they will kill you...
THE DAY SHALL NOT SAVE THEM AND WE OWN THE NIGHT!!!
Edit: That reminds me of a funny story involving tau and some cultists. Dont remember where i read this but i seem to recall a story that the Tau were facing some Slaaneshi cultists. The cultists were all "We serve slaanesh!", the Tau then kill the commander/leader/cult guy or whatever of the cultists and they are all like "Yay, we killed slaanesh."

“When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a Communist.”
Why would daemons have anything to do with tau? Well there are a few way to look at it to get some ideas I feel.
One of the most likely ideas is that the tau are annexing a human world that has leanings towards chaos. Then then create some daemon-ish rituals to help save themselves from tau invasion. And of course then then daemons also kill all the humans, but that is a different matter all together.
A second being that the daemons feed on the negative human emotions and feelings. Since the tau have no warp signatures, they can't feed the daemons. The gods might get annoyed at this turn of events and decide to kill off a tau planet in order for humans to colonize it and inevitably become corrupt.
Or we can look at the gods personalities themselves. Blood spilled is blood spilled. Khorne cares not whose, tau or human. Slannesh might have a harder time since the tau are all brainwashed, but i guess the ethereals might have pretty excessive and good lives. Plagues among tau are obviously not as widespread as a human plague, but it is disease and rot none the less, nurgle can always find interest. And Tzeetch? Who better then he to take interest here? The tau spend their time diplomatically and/or militarily conquering and allying surrounding planets. The amount of intrigue and deception involved is incredible. So he would eat it up.
Or when all else fails, remember... CHAOS! Because it is just too much fun to remain predictable.
