Intending to sell my fantasy and 40k armies to start afresh with a single Daemon army focusing mainly on 40k.
Now being able to take 4 heralds in an army has realy inspired me. To make 4 mini armies for each god all ruled by their own herald. Each quater will cost ~300pts which I will then swap change as the army points see fit.
Herald - Bolt, Master or Sorc, We are Legion (Chariot when points/converted)
11 Horrors - Changeling
Simple Fire base protected by changeling, herald when not on chariot will be with horrors as he can still choose his own targets. When moved to chariot both factors will become safer as my opponent will have two units to charge instead on one.
Herald - Jugger, Might, Blessing, Fury
Rides with Bloodletters. Can pass wounds onto his 3+, can pass Psyker damage onto his 2+. Can also beat a dread in combat (The main bain of Letters I belive)
Herald - Steed, Might, Pavane, Transfixing Gaze
10-14 Deamonettes - Transfixing Gaze
Speed and rending. Minus two attacks in combat, and when not needing to fleet/run can fire off a Pavane. Additional tactic is to remove Herald in the movement phase, to pavane whilst her girls are fleeting. She has 12" charge anyway so can hastily catch up.
Herald - Touch, Gift, Cloud
10 -12 Plagebearers - Icon
May deepstrike offencivly to grab attention and contest/take objectives, further turns can have others use its icon. Intending to get close, even assault, to spam Gift
I will then intend to fill the rest of point with undivided heavy slots. Princes/Grinders but moving towards Princes to abuse Eternal warrior. Equiped with a flame template dropping perfectly off of the icon.
So oppinions on squad sizes? Herald changes? Do you think this idea will work, or should I just make one of the Cookie lists? (FateCrusher/Epidermis/SkarbrandPimp/DaemonZilla)
I've done something similar, though I've used a Daemon Prince of Nurgle instead of a herald, as the heralds of nurgle are truly bad.
Also, Skulltaker on Jugger is phenominal, and only a few more points.
I'll agree with Mathlete on the DP instead of Herald. Heralds of nurgle just hamstring you so bad. DPs of Nurgle, on the other hand, are awesome.
DP of Nurgle with Toxic and Iron yes?
That would leave two heavy slots left, should I take grinders instead?
Be sure to give the daemon prince of nurgle cloud of flies as well. For only 5 points, it's amazing. I also usually give them breath and wings, but that gets expensive. Noxious touch, cloud of flies, and ironhide is fine.
I strongly agree with the above posters that Skulltaker is a LOT better than a normal herald of khorne. In fact, like with nurgle, I wouldn't normally use a herald of khorne in any situation. You're much better off taking bloodletters, bloodcrushers, or daemon princes instead.
With soul grinders it depends on the point level you play. At 1750 and higher, you really need 3 soul grinders in order for them to survive, and even then the overly shooty armies will probably deal with them quickly. I prefer daemon princes myself, but use what you like. Soul grinders can definitely be effective, especially if they're kept cheap.
I'd definitely give the herald of slaanesh a chariot. They're much better that way.
With daemonettes, more is definitely better (I like 15-20, myself). With plague bearers, less is perfectly fine. I never use more than 10 in a unit, and 5-6 is fine.
So 5 Plage bearers and a Nurgle DP tooled heavily makes just under 300pts again.
Kepping to princes over Grinders to saturate my opponent with things to shoot. And thanks to eternal warrior (What I am basing my army around) wont go down in a shot.
Just why would a Slaneesh chariot do better than a steed with deamonettes. I am also tempted to swap the nettes for Seekers. And the bloodletters for crushers (With herald)
A herald of slaanesh doesn't really add anything to a unit of daemonettes that is better than the same points in daemonettes. In other words, the herald of slaanesh costs the same as 3-4 daemonettes, but they aren't as powerful as 3-4 daemonettes. You're better off adding more daemonettes to the unit.
A chariot, on the other hand, can distract your opponent, tie units up, and absorb quite a bit of fire. It's more versatile, and adds more to the list. I'd also give the chariot unholy strength, since it's fairly cheap, and would help the chariot hunt vehicles.
Musk as well so she can pinball to her target?
I knew I was forgetting something. Yes, musk works very well. You jump out of close combat after their turn, so you can shoot or re-assault them on your turn, while simultaneously assaulting something else.
This would be alot easier and a better army if you did 2-3 gods instead of all 4.
Eldar -APOC- 6500 Points
Chaos Daemons -Fate Crusher- 3500 Points
Grey knights - 1000 Points
