So, I was just kind of curious how many of you out there just include a unit in your army because you like them or think they fit the theme rather than that they are effective. What unit is it and why?
For instance Huron is not our best character and DPs are definitely better but I include him in almost all of my lists because his model and rules just feel Iron Warrior-y to me.
What say you denizens of the warp?
IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT!
I survived LO Chat thanks to: Karmoon, Rabbit, Process, Tossy and Meish.
I use a Chaos Lord with MoK and Daemon weapon to represent my recently turned chapter's lord. He's not reliable, and a significant amount of the time he does absolutely nothing, but he makes up for his when he butchers entire squads by himself. That, and it's always really fun to see the look on my opponent's face when I roll 10 extra attacks. The main reason I use him, though, is that in my fluff, my chapter are obsessed with martial perfection so they resist any daemonic assistance as cheating to the point where Lord Goreskull actively opposes daemonhood.
I think if you like a model(s), there is always a way to include them and make them useful in a game.
I started put lots of Dwarf slayers into my warhammer armies, and jump troops into my Dark Angels.
Try playing "capture the flag" with the flag being your prize character or unit. You defend with, 25% less pts. You soon work out how best to use it (them).
Hope this helps some what!
I ofton build my forces for Fluff over Win but try to keep them balanced at the same time so i can still be semi competative.
PROUD TO BE IN THE BRITISH ARMY.
~~ Surrender and serve me in life, or die and slave for me in death~~
I only include units inmy army that I think are fun to play with, regardless of their effectiveness. Also, most of the time, I forgot fluff completely, it's not rare to see khorne berzerkers supporting 1000 sons in my battles. If I enjoy the couple of hours spent, then what does the result or background matter?
Spambot kill tally. . .337
In friendly games and Apocalypse I will use all of my fun units and try out new things. In leagues and tournaments its time to put on my serious face and I try to build my list for absolute power and efficiency and disregard fluff for the most part.
League Stats: Orks 4W-1L-1T, CSM 4W-2L-0T, Dark Eldar 10W-6L-4T, Tau 3W-1L-1T, Blood Angels 4W-1L-1T, Imperial Guard 2W-1L-0T
Tourney Stats: Blood Angels 6W-0L-0T, Dark Eldar 2W-1L-0T
My main force is World Eaters, the fluff behind them (especially Kharn) is what has kept me playing CSM for many years. That being said, I know I could field Warptime Nurgle Princes or Lash Princes, but instead I opt for your basic Khorne Prince with wings, less effective but fits my theme much better. My fun, even if I lose the overall match, is in watching a squad of Berzerkers wipe out their opponent, or Kharn take down their prized HQ, and then yelling BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! which really gets people laughing.
