I myself have always used a vindicator, but what does everyone else use, and do they feel that one is better than the other? Why? I have always found the vindicator more useful, better able to take out any type of infantry than predators, and also for taking out vehicles a crucial strength 10, (although it is only one shot and a blast).
What does everyone else use?
i use defilers, but.... really it is a matter of what you need, reliable single target you take pred, big threat take the vindi.
most people will do everything they can to kill a vindi as soon as they can
I use Predators. For the majority of games I play, the board is smaller than normal. Leaving Vindis awfully vulnerable to the charge. Predators can remain far enough away to be safer yet still take things out. I've used Vindis before but they were not horribly effective due to the close quarters and getting taken out quick.
I've used a Predator along with my pair of Defilers, and I liked the result. It was kinda like using a pair of Oblits that don't change weapons, but have armor. I just deployed it in a good spot, and didn't move it most of the game, but it didn't get shot at, either.
Vindis always seem a little problematic for me. First, the short reach of its ordinance weapon pretty much requires the vindi to get within range of enemy fire, which should be capable of dealing penetrating blows to the fragile side-hull. Second, a single "weapon destroyed" roll renders the vindi mute, whereas a predator has three weapons before it's no longer a threat. Furthermore, the limited arc of a hull-mounted weapon really does hamper a vindi that's been immobilized.
Spambot kill tally. . .337
I often use a house rule of a random weapon destroyed result, and so equip mine with a twin-linked bolter, most players agree as it benefits everyone, and is in some ways more realistic.
I also try to advance mine shielded by cover, so that only the front armour can be shot at, and also try to only keep within range of one unit that can pose a threat, then neutralise this before moving into range/line of sight of another.
Also, as I usually play against marines, the large blast, high strength, low AP is better, as the majority of AC and HB shots from a predator will be ignored due to the save, and 3 LCs can only kill up to 3 models. However a large AP 2 blast, can kill many without armour saves.
Although, I didn't create this thread to convince people to use vindicators, merely because I was interested in what others use.
I've only used the Vindicator a few times. I don't own the model, however I use my sons White Scar Vindicator when he isn't using it. I really like using a Vindicator and a Defiler. The Defiler hits the farther away targets while the Vindicator hits the closer ones. I also take Daemonic possession on the Vindicator as it really helps to keep it firing every round. It is a pretty deadly duo and I have had tons of luck with it. However, depending on the point value in the game, I almost always take a Predator over the Vindicator with Lascannons all around. If there is enough points, I like all three units, but usually I go with the Defiler and the Predator. The time I take the Vindicator over the Predator is when facing swarm armies and ordnance rules. If I'm facing a lot of armored units, I love the Predator to punch more accurately through these units.

I would say that if the vindicator is used right its can be wayyy better than the predator in almost all games ive played against a nid player they have had genestealers one shot from this tank takes out all of the squad. Also against a normal troop squad its over for them unless they have cover. The predator where it lacks in damage it makes up for it with range and protection due to being so far away. while the vindicator only having one way to shot lacks in protection and range but makes up for it in damage. its a win win ethier way.
