Ive tried several strategies with my Worldeaters army. Ive played with cheap aspiring champions and lots of troops, or expensive champs and a terrifying lord with a small meat screen. I was wondering what the general philosophy is on how many points a model should cost, especially in a chaos army where theres so much cool wargear and an almost infinte ability to create really expensive squad leaders and HQs. What would you suggest for an army looking to win?
worst thing you can do with chaos is get carried away with wargear, skills, etc. keep it simple and they're still effective.
i usually take either-
champ w/ powerfist and bolt pistol
champ w/ powerweapon, daemonic strength and bolt pistol
I also agree. Try to put as many guys into your army as possible, and if you have points left over that are not enough for a squad than beef up your champs and lords. Model count is very important. The more the better.

Whatever you want, really, Chaos is meant for bearding, so go beard if it pleases you.
If you are low on finance, this is the best way to go

I dont think this will really apply to your situation, but in a Thousand Sons army, I just have to beef up my champions with awesome psycic powers. That along with the fact that each troop costs 24 points, my army does not have a very high model count. But it usually does very well on the battlefield.
Don't look now... But there's one man too many in this room and I think it's you.

TS are not a "typical chaos army"... In their case consider the number of wounds not the number of modells in your army.
I also agree with the "keep'em simple" point. I use champs w. power weapon + bolt pistol + strength/mutation. My squads usally have furious charge, and this set up works well...

Please do not get annoyed on my spelling: i am not a native speaker...
hehe, but in your case of a worldeaters army, there is one small gift that is literally worth it's weight in spacemarine heads...........ready? Feel No Pain.
it's just that simple.
a worldeater army'sa asp. champs, really only have one loadout, and thats feel no pain, and a powerfist. from there, depending on what direction your going, you'll want the talisman, visage, and if the squad has it, furious charge.
anything else, is just taking from your zerker count.
now if were talking about a badass squad of chosen, it's a little different, if done right, these guy's are like mini lords.
Take my words with a grain of salt, i am not the tactical genius i think i am!
want to go c-tan hunting get 36 khorne bezerkers with furious charge this would take off about 4 wounds in 1 turn follow up with 5 bloodletters and a bloodthirster

Fielding Asp. Champion with 1 spawn each can be pretty good too.
I've tried out a squad of 8 decked out aspiring champions in a rhino. The whole thing costed about 900 points (ouch) but it wiped out a lot of stuff too. The only real problem with this (beside the obvious point sink) is that they die too easily for the points they cost. Which is where the spawns come in. instead of taking aura or essence, take a spawn with each champion. the cost of the squad stays the same (900 or so points) but the life of the squad skyrockets.
