Is it a huge deal to play with the square bases in 40K? Im looking at starting daemons to have a 40k and fantasy army and jsut didnt want to spend a ton on the magnetic bases.

Because of the rules covering assault etc I would say no but I may be wrong. It could be like in fantasy where the models need to be used on the bases supplied.
Actually, with 40k, the bases do matter, BUT, in Fantasy you can use the round bases, IF you custom make a movement tray for the round bases. Base size actually matters in both games, but in fantasy with the movement trays as an option, you can get around it in this way.
That might be a better option if your willing to do it.
I helped figure it out with a buddy of mine for his Khorne army. You just have to get some 5mm foam board and cut the holes out for the bases in rows of 5 that are how ever many deep you want the ranks to be, then taper the edges, and base on some plasticard or sheet metal(which is what we were gonna use because the bases would be magnetized) then base it up to match your daemon bases and your done. Instant multi-role daemons.
Thanks, I like the movement tray idea, so ill probably go that route.

There's always been some uncertainty with daemons in 40k, because the rules just say to use the bases supplied, and daemons are supplied with both. That said, there will be some trouble assaulting in 40k if they're not on round bases, so putting them on round bases is better if you want to use the daemons for both, competitively.
Personally, I have most of the daemons troops on square bases and use them in both fantasy and 40k, since they're easier to use in fantasy that way, but I don't usually play competitively, and mainly stick to casual games, so in my case it doesn't really matter.

It's nice to see someone with the same dilemma.. haha... What I'm currently doing is for small infantry I just mounted all of them on the round base since the square bases are bigger, I tried ranking and filing them up with round bases on top of the square bases and it didn't seem to cause any trouble. And also these infantry units are on movement trays. My monstrous creatures like crushers kairos, Daemon princes are on square bases since it's smaller than the round ones... If you try to fit it, there seems to be no problem at all if you play with them casually or competitively... By the way, do you guys know any 1500pt competitive army lists, Im new to this site and I dont know where the army list section is.. thanks a lot.. Sorry for the thread hi-jacking..
