What are your views or opinions on the daemonettes of slannesh. I love the models but IMO they just don't seem to great or worth the points.
You have to take them in mass, otherwise they won't make it into combat.
They are a compatent unit, not as powerful as bloodletters but can deal with units in cover and rend any unit into the ground.
i disagree, i think they're way overpriced compared to what they actually accomplish... nice with all their attacks BUT with WS 4 theyll almost allways only hit on 4+ and then with their S3 they will wound on a 5 typically when they're facing most cc specialist. it will almost allways amount to a unit thats pretty expensive has some potential (not enough) which can die easily to lasguns...
can't see myself using them ever, even though i have the models since i love slaanesh
I look at slannesh with disdain and irritation ;D but i have to confess that i bought a whole bunch of them to just paint them up. In my mind they're just eyecandy guardsmen with high I, WS and Rending. Not much for the ex point cost.
Mors nos angeli, Sanguis sanguinem deus.
When I first started playing Daemons, I used the Daemonettes quite a bit until I had a unit of 10 Daemonettes fight 8 Genestealers. In one round, I lost every single Daemonette and he lost 2-3 Genestealers. I've found since then that Bloodletters fight as good or better, the Plaguebearers can hang in a fight longer and hold objectives better and Pink Horrors have excellent ranged firepower plus a better save. The only thing Daemonettes have going for them is a bit more speed with Fleet. Now I rarely use the Daemonettes. I like Bloodletters against high armour and I like Pink Horrors just about everywhere else. I personally rarely use Slaanesh units, but sometime will take the Masque to move units around with her Pavane. I disagree with SirHoly however, the Daemonettes are cost about right considering they have fleet and rending claws plus lots of attacks. 14 points is not a lot for what you get.
I love the fluff, model, and concept of daemonettes, and it saddens me that the criticisms above are basically all correct. Daemonettes are alright if taken in large units of 15-20, but the other daemon troops are effective in units of 5-8, making the daemonettes a huge point sink that can easily die to concentrated fire.
They're too fragile, they're relatively expensive, and they don't have a high enough initiative to effectively deal with other high initiative assault units, like genestealers or wyches, without taking heavy losses.
I've recently found that they don't fare that much better in fantasy, simply because Bloodletters are better in virtually every way.
If you like their models, then don't despair. Seekers of Slaanesh are effective in both 40k and fantasy. They're very fast, aren't too expensive if taken in small units, and overall I prefer them over flesh hounds.
"Any job worth doing, is worth doing with a powerklaw."
I fully agree with Mynameisgrax in regards to Seekers. They are essentially Daemonettes who can assault 12" for a mere 2 points more.
They're cowbags that work nastily against high-initiative races like Eldar, and other T3 units, but yes, they suck AND blow at anything else.
Mono god lists are bangin. Dont read or listen to people who say that deamonettes suck. Deamonettes are supposed to be the fast high intiative assassins of the demons and thats exactly what they are. Use them in conjuction with other fast fleeting demons like seekers and fiends and pavane princes and watch units get ripped in half. If they are used with mixed and match units of course they arnt going to accomplish anything because they are meant to be dropped on the field, have fiends or seekers tie the unit up, then mop up with the deamonettes.
A whole fleeting, beasts, flying, pavane slannesh list is a nasty fast ripping deamons list, people just dont use them that often because people often dont creat lists around deamonettes, they like tzeentch and nurgle too much. Build your list around your core like the game is supposed to and watch deamonettes shine.
I occasionally turn out an evil all-Tzeentch list of some 180 shooting dice and 4+ saves. It works for a few turns then I get rushed by my opponent's entire army in a safety play and just get smashed. It's usually a good laugh when I succeed. MonoGod lists do work, but with Slaanesh you just need to be REALLY careful because most of the army selection is very weak. Daemonettes ARE good in combos with Fiends and large Daemons however, I'll admit that.
