How do you model your CSM?

Do you opt for the classic bolter or do you use the chainsword and pistol? Do you like your basic troops to look like they want some action or to sit back and shoot? Just wondering how everyone else models there grunts.

I like both, thou i dont normally mix the 2 in squads. i have 2 squads of cc and 2 squads with bolters. I like the look of a hardened warrior with just his bolter. But the numerous action poses available to the CC arms are irresistible not to mess with.

yep, I too like a mix, I sometimes mix, but like you also keep them fairly separate most of the time, this allows me to pose one unit more like they are running into combat, and another in more steadystances, heads following their bolters etc.

All of us old-school types have squads of both.
In pre-history, we had an "Armoury" to cost the models we chose.
We liked choosing our models and enjoyed converting them, too.

This meant "like" models were grouped into squads for simplicity.
It was a happier time, and we'd have gotten away with it, too ...

hehe, yeah, I still got my old squads of "melee marines" (bolt pistol cc wep, flamers) and "ranged marines" (bolters, plasma guns)...

I started with chaos right after I saw Andy Chambers' IW army in an old WD somewhere... (when the "new" smurf sprue just had gotten out)

[edit]:no,wait, that can't be true...most of them are metal or converted from the marines you got in the 2n edition starter box...

For differentiation, I also model some with bolter and ccw, they have both, so why not? It looks good and different.

I like putting bolters on my ranged squads as well. If they have plasma or heavy weapons I put bolters with them. If they have meltaguns and power fist I go bp/ccw. Just a matter of taste, but I like to think they resemble the role I have for them.
