Ok, so my friend is very interested in Chaos SMs and wants to start (on a medium budget, $200 AUD). He has asked me to help him comprise a small starting list, since he is new to 40,00, and myself not knowing Chaos SMs, I knew the guys over at LO could give me a hand.
So, with that in mind, he is particularly interested in Khorne (Assault army, just get in there and simply chop 'em up) and is also interested in a vehicle based army (Especially Vindicators, although, Ive yet to encounter somebody who doesn't like them).
Its likely he wont be getting models for a while after getting this force, but for 500pts, what would be a good starting army?
Well, a box of CSM and a box of berzerkers would be a good place to start then I think
win some, lose some
Or get him to buy his stuff of wayland games! basically everything on that site is half price. He could have at least 1500 pts i'd say with $200
for the follower of khorne on a budget i would recommend picking up kharn and the battleforce box. that will give him everything he needs to start playing, and he should be able to find that for under 100 dollars US. with the rest i would suggest picking up some rhinos and a defiler. that will give him a very khornate army, and he should still have some change left over.
i don't know how it would translate for australia, but i find that ccg armory is consistently the cheapest site for chaos in 40k. they are at least 20% under retail.n wayland had a lot more stuff, but they were a little bit more.
A good selection there chaps. GW stores are quite the ripoff over there but mail order from elsewhere can absorb the difference between a squad box and a battleforce.
Give a man a gun and he can rob a bank. Give a man a bank and he can rob the world.
Battleforce, an HQ (DP or Kharne) and some heavy support - Defiler probably

Obliterators are awesome for so many reasons. No matter what the situation they are effective. I use mine primarily as mobile lascannons. They are really good at popping transports or speeders. As such they really slow down the development of the other side.
They are a must. Even one can do a lot.
