They have tons of really cool chaos stuff, but most of it is not in the codex. what exactly is the legality of those items?
when can you use them?
You can allways use provided you ask beforhand to your opponent if it's okay to use FW items, in most cases provided you have their rules to show and the person your playing isn't a total jerk it should be fine.
In apocalypse you can field whatever you want unless the game has a certain theme or limitations placed from the start.
Tournaments generally don't allow them but some do, if your not certain ask the TO.
Just as a question which FW model do you have in mind or are planning on purchasing?

All the rules for these miniatures are in the forgeworld "imperial armour books" for 40k or in the case of the warhammer forge fantasy stuff - the book isn't out yet but is on the way. Some models have experimental rules which you can download from the forgeworld site, there are usually links to this effect in the models descriptions.
naturally the chaos titans caught my eye, but more realistically i was thinking about drop pods. i think it's crap that we don't get them. and those talon jets are tempting as well. all that stuff is pricey, so i was just asking out of curiousity.
Why does it make you a jerk to say no?, forgeworld mini's are very cool true but most of the models rules are over the top -in apok fine but in a regular game of 40k its very hard to deal with superheavys and thier like, and the flyer rules are just plain annoying x_x
In my opinion, I would not use forgeworld units with their experimental rules in standard games against random people. Sure most people wouldn't mind but you don't want to place pressure on anyone either. Keep the forgeworld rules to apoc games or amongst friends. Against random people, I would only use certain forgeworld models to maybe stand in for your commander or something - ie XV9 battlesuit standing in as a commander (using codex rules) = fine
I'd say that most friends would agree if you asked them before hand (perhaps not to superheavies unless you were playing a special scenario) but in tournaments or against random people, I wouldn't.
