I'm fairly new, and love the game so far. I've been collecting a bit, and have played a few games with locals, and usually win, but that's only because it's the blind leading the deaf and blind. So, I was hoping that you guys could look over my list and let me know what's next, or any opinions for additions. For now, just assume that budget is unlimited. Here is my current stuff:
- Terminator Armor
- Mark of Tz
- (Spawn Ability, forget the name.)
1x Deamon Prince
- Mark of Slaanesh
15x CSM (Usually take as 2 squads)
- 7x Bolters
- 1x Heavy Bolter (Asp. Champ.)
- 6x Close Combat Weps.
- 1x Power Fist (Asp. Champ)
12x Khorne Beserkers
- 12x Standard Zerkers
- 2x Combi Flamers
- 1x Combi Melta
- 1x Reaper Autocannon
- 1x Hammer
- 4x Chainfists
- 1x Power Fist
1x Converted Assault Bike
- Close Combat Arm
- Reaper Autocannon
- Twin-Linked Lascannon Turret
- Heavy Bolter Side Sponsons
1x Land Raider
That's about it. I know that I need Oblits, I'm gonna get some. Also, I plan on grabbing up some Plague Marines, but beyond that, I'm lost. Some guidance/advice from you guys would be great. You have helped me greatly already, just by reading everyone else's post, so I decided to be selfish and ask for myself. Thanks in advance!
.A standard chaos lord wouldn't hurt, they are reliable and can be fitted out for a variety of jobs. One combo I know of is a lord in terminator armour, mark of khorne, bloodfeeder and a juggernaut of khorne, this guy has the ability to pump at loads of high strength power weapon attacks that can leave great holes in enemy units.
.Kharn, a very good cost effective leader, useful for taking out other enemy heroes.
.Abaddon, you can't go wrong with this
.Terminators are really the only good elite unit at the moment, the others like possessed are not as good as things like khorne bezerkers.
.Dreadnoughts can be useful but it depends what you arm them with, I would personally give them plasma cannon and close combat weapon.
.Unless you are going to carry on with converted attack bikes, the rest of the choices are to expensive or not as good as something else.
.Spawn, I think there is not really much of a use for them apart from tying up enemy units.
.Like you said obliterators are needed, they are better than havocs due to their variety of weapons.
.The only other good thing you haven't got is a vindicator, good at dealing with hordes and elites at the same time.
.Khorne bezerkers are probably one of the best assault troops out there, you have one unit and you could squeeze another in if you wanted to, it is best to have squads of 10 in a rhino, they unleash 40 attacks on the charge at strengh 5.
.Thousand sons are very resilient and so are good at holding objectives, I would suggest a unit of these.
.Noise marines are quite expensive so I personally would not use them however you might disagree.
.Plague marines, these are also good at holding objective as well as taking them, a large unit can soak up a lot of fire and still dish out lots of pain.
.Chaos space marines, I tend to field squads of 10 so they can be put in a rhino, I would use up to squad of 15 but I find 20 man squads too bulky and not maneuverable enough.
.Rhinos, you will want a fair few rhinos, 3+ as they are incredibly cheap for what they do.
Hope this helps you,
I forgot to mention that I know that I need more rhinos.
As for the Zerkers, I'd def. like to get some more. However, idk if they would be good to use together with PMs.
Should I have an all Zerker troop chart?
Or an all PM chart?
As for HQ, I really like the look of the plastic Prince, so I may buy another one, and just give him Warptime. For the points there, it seems to me that you can't go wrong.
In HS, I would like a Vindi, but don't they usually run in pairs? (My main enemy is nids.) Also, I was on the fence about another defiler.
I really appreciate the feedback, man. Thanks again!
can you give us an idea of the armies you'll be facing? Chaos has alot of moving parts that can be fitting to work against what we're facing. There are all-comers lists, but as you're learning it's better to take one step at a time.
zerkers and plagues work very well together to answer your second post. I wouldn't go entirely for an all plagues/all zerkers list as the plagues have a lower initiative but can take better weapons whereas the zerkers have the higher initiative, more attacks, and furious charge but also just pistols. You'll also find that your berzerkers will become sponges for fire from your opponent. a full squad getting the charge is all it takes to make an opponent say "never again!"
...until you watch them die horribly on the charge against a smaller unit of lesser daemons...
Not my zerkers brightest moments I can assure you
win some, lose some
I'll mostly be playing... every army. Lol. Nine of my friends got into it, all around the same time.
Everyone's collected armies are:
The list goes on. Those are the main ones, I would say, but I'm pretty much gonna need an solid all comers build/structure.
However, I love all sides of the game, and would love to be able to play with some fluff as well, like World Eaters, and Death.
I appreciate again the help.
P.S. Yeah, I've also experienced getting beaten up by genestealers. (Not fun.)
(disclaimer: I'm more of a trial and error player. I'm not good with strategy so if anyone contradicts me, you'll be safer listening to them lol)
of that list, I'd file tau and necrons as low priority. they're due an update this year or next so I'm not sure what will change except for what a smattering of rumors say. I have no faced blood angels yet and only did a demo game against the guard with my best friend who started them as a second army.
orks you'll want templates. Shoot them before they get to you. What type of nid army is it? MC spam or a swarm? if its swarm, you'll wanna go the same route as with the orks. MC spam... I'll let someone who's actually been able to beat nidzilla (which counts me out lol) handle that one.
now as for dark eldar (my second army) your whole goal is to react to them. All their transports are 10/10/10 and I think the ravager's the same way (don't have my codex handy). Find the wyches, shoot the wyches. You'll want your berzerkers to hunt down and remove all kabalite warriors from objectives.
as for your list, you stated yourself you already need rhinos and obliterators, that's good. I don't really like sorcerers too much so I'd honestly shelf that model. Since you're interested in the fluff for the world eaters, I'd recommend getting Kharn. he's our best special character and when paired with a squad of 8 (the sacred number of Khorne) berzerkers in a land raider you should be able to have quite a delicious meal.
What size games were you going to be playing? Starting small and building up?
most hq units are better outside of term armor, if you run any hq in term armor best to put them in a land raider taken as a transport for his term retinue. deepstriking is too chancy and is best used for termicide squads. A DP with wings, with a defensive mark advancing behind your rhinos for cover is the most cost effective hq. Kharn gets very high marks for his cost but most of the others are so so.
for elites a karmoon special (termicide deepstriking unit of 4 with a chainfist, heavy flamer, and 3 combi plasma or meltas) can be useful, or there are arguments for a chaos dread, but you will have to read some of the threads going on about how to make them work for you. some groups will follow the adepticon ruling on their line of sight for crazed table, some will not.
Troops - Chaos has some of the best troops in the game, while noise marines and thousand suns seem to be more specialized, no one will tell you not to use berserkers, or plague marines, or a squad of CSM. all three of those can be used in any combination, usually people specify 8 berserkers, 7 PM's with plasma guns, or 10 CSM(icon of CG optional). always give them a powerfist so they can take on monstrous creatures and armor, nothing worse than having your 250 point unit wrapped up for the entire game because they can not hurt it, melta bombs are not a substitute - hitting with one attack only on a 6, and give them a rhino(sometimes if you have the points a combi melta for the rhino). one troop selection per 500 points is a good rule of thumb
Fast attack - For how good our troops are, our fast attack are almost useless. our bikes cost 8 points more per unit than our loyalist scum brotherhood, can not be made scoring and do not have heavy weapon options like their attack bikes - they are over priced. spawn are too random and can not be counted on. raptors price is in line with loyalists costs, but..... just not being scoring makes them a hard unit to make useful.
Heavy- people only double up on vindis and defilers to make sure they remain a threat, their pie plates make them a very high priority target. if people are firing at your defilers they are not shooting at your rhinos, and troops will win you the game
there are a few good post recently about how to use your rhinos and how to make a Dread work for you, read them
As you say yourself, you need oblits. They are one of the best choices in the entire codex and should be taken as soon as you get some. To keep them cheap I have converted mine out of terminators and old weapon bits, works like a charm!
If you need a lascannon on the predator, take the lascannon sponsons and leave the turret to the autocannon, that makes it cheaper and you'll get two lascannons instead of one. Defiler is fine!
As mentioned above the squads should be 5-7 for PMs, 8 for zerks and 10 for CSM. The terminator squad can take the Landraider as a dedicated vehicle to open up another heavy slot, but then only the termies can start in it. If you keep it in the heavy slot you can transport your lord and 8 zerkers around and assault out from it, a lethal combination!
Make sure you got a rhino for all your troops, it really helps! I go by the thinking that I must have 1 troop choice per 500 points, so I got 3 at 1500p, 4 at 2000p and so on, at 1750 I sometimes takes 3 sometimes takes 4...
win some, lose some
