hello everyone, ive just begun collecting guard a few months ago with the idea of creating a massive infantry horde packed with special weapons. (for some reason im just not big on tanks) Anyway After playing a bunch of friends chaos daemon and CSM forces I was hoping to create a traitor guard army. Im tired of being on the defensive every time we play and came across lots of pictures and little information on traitor guard. Since my friends and I just play casual games Im just using the Guard codex applying to my guard troops and Chaos dex for the Traitor marines joining them. Since my 3 platoons (about 35 guardsmen each) are rather lacking in hth i was hoping for a good configuration of close combat chaos space marines which could strike out from the spralling mass of guardsmen and dish out some punishment whereever they strike. Im trying to avoid any armor in my force but was mostly just wondering about good chaos space marine units that would be effective with the big guard infantry blob and anytactics (particularly against regular spacemarines)
Thanks in advance!
Berserkers would be the easiest choice. Vanilla CSM with meltas or flamers, and an IoCG or IoK could also work.
If your friends are letting you be really fluffy, and loose with the rules, then you could also try running your IG squads like Traitors from the old Eye of Terror book, and have them led by a CSM Champ instead of the IG options. I'd equip them as per the current codex, but a little power armor with a fist, or power weapon would be a tiny bit of help when they get charged.
thanks! i think ill get that eye of terror book! I just finished painting my first guard platoon today and have about 40 or so guardsmen and 2 more heavy weapons teams arriving later in the week. The Berserkers color scheme will work perfectly with them too i imagine (guardsmen are scab red armor darksun clothes black boots/gloves) All my space marine friends are already yelling at me for switching sides tho haha
Yeah too bad in the old EOT codex where it says you can equip your Aspiring Champions with points from the Chaos Armoury there isn't anything but weapons. And the power weapon points got switched from the old Chaos Codex but I'm sure your friends would be lenient. I pretty much just made a LATD list and just took what ACs could take in a normal squad as what my HQ could and people seem to be fine with it.
Also we don't have Lieutenants anymore. Seeming your HQ choices as LATD are A lieutenant, a sorc or a group of ACs you kind of get screwed in that department as you're stuck with a lieutenant unless your friends let you replace it with a lord. Red traitor IG always remind me of Blood Pact.
