I've always been a chaos player at heart (7k+ of daemons) but now I want to give the power armoured versions a go. After reading through the fluff I have pretty much settled on Night Lords. Now after buying the codex and having a read through it, there's nothing really that you could use to make a themed list outside of raptors.
Now, what I was thinking was basing the list on a Slaanesh build. Not noise marines, but regular marines with an icon of slaanesh (Konrad was trained by Fulgrim anyway). Also a jumppack lord is a definite in as well.
So what do you guys think? What would you throw in an army to make it something that resembles a themed list? I'd kind of like to steer away from anything daemonic (obliterators are in just cause they are to cool) so no daemon princes or summoned gribblies.
Cheers for the input!
When in doubt, more Bloodcrushers
they dumbed down our late 4th edition codex to the point that themed lists do not work unless you go black legion. to a lesser extant death guard and world eaters can work, but in general a(n) (insert legion name here) themed list does not work with our current codex.
the only thing wrong with raptors is they are not troops, in 5th edition you need troops. without troops you will not win. as long as you are not playing competitively you may be able to swing a house rule that lets you count your jump troops as troops as long as you do have a commander that has a jump pack, sort of like special rules that 5th edition space marines have for bikes. but do not count on it. otherwise there is some standard advice.
1 troop per 500 points
daemon prince with warptime is better than a daemon prince without warptime, is arguably better than a sorcerer with warptime, which will always be better than a lord with any weapons.
always get a powerfist in your squads
The best way to play a Night Lords themed army is to use codex blood angels with all the jump pack marines being troops. You model your army to look like night lords and you use the rules for the blood angels. Until we get a new codex that can use the theme of our legions to make different builds, using an other codex is the way to go.
"Iron Within, Iron Without"
I really need to focus on a single army...
Orkz: 3000 pts. Slaaneshi Chaos: 2500 pts. Ultramarines: 1250 pts. Necrons: 1000 pts.
Eldar: 1000 pts. Tau: 1000 pts. Dark Angels: 550 pts. Grey Knights: 450 pts
Innovation suffuses this hobby like a tea bag in the boiling water of play.
