I'm going to be playing against Space Wolves on wednesday and I really need some advice on what to use/how to play against them. The guy usually takes the following the units. Two long fang squads with missile launchers, 3 squads of grey hunters in rhinos, ragnar blackmane with wolfguard in a rhino and a rune priest. He also has a silly amount of thunderwolf cavalry and two characters to go with them.
One shall stand, and one shall fall.
If you want to customize your list against him field 3 vindicators and call it a day. Instant killing his thunderwolf is going to win you the game.
If you want a more balanced list go with 2 lash sorcerers/princes to push back the thunderwolf. 2-3 defilers to take out the long fangs before they take you out and have str10 attacks if you survive the rending hits to kill the thunderwolf (if he plays them right 1-2 usually have stormshields so thats a tough fight). Dreadnaughts also have the Str10 that you need to beat thunderwolf. Obliterators with their choice of weapons are going to be helpful. No matter what, chaos against this kind of space wolf list is an uphill battle.
CSM can trade blows 1 for 1 with grey hunters (even if the grey hunters are cheaper) but nothing compares to thunderwolf in the chaos dex and those are what you have to stay away from. Especially the lords on thunderwolf, they can single handedly kill a unit of CSM in 2 turns and loose nothing more then a wound. The saga of the warrior born can give them an insane amount of attacks per turn if they are not handled fast. Since he is running 2 lords, 1 probably has the saga since he can't have it twice in his list.
Here is a blog post that will give you a good knowledge of how the list works Space Wolves: Goatboys Space Wolves it's not exactly the same list but it revolves around the same concept and way of playing.
