I'm starting a Sons of Malice army who worship Malal/Malice, the 5th God of Chaos. There isn't much fluff behind Malal or the Sons of Malice, which gives me some room to customize. I'm sure most of you have heard of Malal and/or the Sons of Malice but for those of you who haven't, here are two links which describes them in the most detail that I can find on the internet:
Malal - Warhammer 40K Wiki - Space Marines, Chaos, planets, and more
Sons of Malice
Sons of Malice - Warhammer 40K Wiki - Space Marines, Chaos, planets, and more
As far as customization goes, I want my army to retain some of their Space Marine qualities since they didn't leave the Imperium of their own free will and the fact that they despise the other Chaos Gods. I have already ordered one set of 10 Chaos Space Marines and one set of 10 Space Marines so I can mix and match the two and have also oredered a Dreadnought. Any suggestions on how to make these guys look is more than appreciated. Also any tips on painting. Thanks in advance.
I would undercoat white then coat the whole model with a wash of Astronomican grey or fortress grey. When dry you can reapply white to build up the armour.
Then apply the black to the other quarters. To shade this you can go for extreme edge hilighting with dark grey or shadow grey. Badab black wash can tone this down but be careful to keep it away from the white. Another method of painting black is to paint them a very dark grey then apply badab black wash to it. You might consider not gluing the arm on the model that will be black, it will be easier to keep that arm and the shoulderpad seperate if you can match up the arms to hold the weapons correctly.
Gold trim can be painted gold then given a ogryn flesh wash. Silver itens can be boltgun metal then a wash of sepia or badab black and pick out the hilights in chainmail.
