So I noticed we can take autocannons on some of our units and even reaper autos on termies. Does anyone take them? Do any kits come with them, and if not, has anyone converted them and how?
They come in the Terminator kits, Defiler kits, Predator kits, and you can get them on Havoc models. Pretty easy to convert, just a basic long barrelled gun with an ammo box on one side. Check out IG models on the GW site to see what they look like.
Personally I don't use them, as they're too limited in their use with what their strength value and AP value is. Much better to just take a missile launcher for those who are long distance fighters, and your termies are generally short range and therefore the autocannon isn't as good as a combi-plasma or combi-melta. If you do use them, stick them on a Predator tank's main turret and pop a couple sponsons on the side.
i take 4 auto cannons in a 10 man squad of havocs on a regular. They pop transports easily, and they make stormravens sad. 8 st7 shots per turn can be devistating. They are also good for taking a few out MC.
The only thing they cant do is AV14, which is bad when your opponent brings 5 landraiders....
I do well with 4 autocannons in a 5-man havoc squad. They normally out preform my other havoc squad of 4 missiles. I would not take them on Terminators as they are almost the price of another Terminator, I instead take the Heavy Flamers. Statistically speaking they do perform better then the Missile Launchers against light-mid armor transports as they have twice as many shots, and with a decent to-hit roll with 6-7 hits on a rhino or Storm Raven you will have better odds of taking them out then with 2-3 missile hits.
Autocannons are the best weapons to take down AV11 vehicules. Since almost everybody runs rhinos/razorbacks having autocannons is a really good bet. All my predators have the autocannon and my defilers also. For my havocs I take my autocannon havocs before my missile launcher havocs.
Obliterators used to have autocannons also, in the new book they don't have them anymore and I don't use my obliterators anymore because of it.

Wow, i thought i was one of the last people using Autocannons. Like the poster above pointed out 2 shots on the autocannon is why it is superior to the ML in my book. If Heavy bolters were 48" i would run them instead, thou they are a good substitue if you know your playing orcs.
Oblits used to have alot of weapons that they are missing now. I remember my first game comming back in to 40k in 5th ed, looking thru my oblits weapon options trying to find a heavy bolter or something with multiple shots.
I find them pretty good vs DE, as they aren't instant killed, and can deal with their vehicles and their troops, but against MCs, the AP3 of MLs can be more useful.

I miss the old days when we could put tank hunter on our havocs. It really made auto cannons a force to be reckoned with.

Each to his own, I guess. ACs work great against Eldar, DE and Tau. Not so good against Marines. I always like to take one in a squad of my Termies, because you can move and fire, and the T/L means you nearly always hit.
