Now with the Grey Knights codex, is it even possible to make an all comers list anymore? sorry for such a random question i just wanted to know thanx.
who know i mean grey knights are hard to beat for any army right now with purifier spam and all the str 7 and 8 shots they get. Every army is going to have trouble with them. AS for deamons u just have to know what gifts to take i find 2 blood thirsters with might and blessing of the blood god is hard for any army to deal with. Even if their are backed yup by some dps of tzeeth. Really becasue way to beat them is inv save inv save inv save and take their armor save away. AS for that 1st helps alot too.
Is there any way get past their psychic power 'Dark Excommunicate' which when activated takes away Daemonic Gifts & i haven't heard of any Daemon players finding a way past GK 'Warp Quake' apart from hoping to get the first turn, i just don't like all their killy killy stuff
Dark Ex is why you don't go 'all-in' with 'thirsters & MoK princes. I find it's still preferable to take Fateweaver + 2x Tzheralds in chariots as HQ's. MoN or more MoT princes in heavy.
Personally, if I want the blessing gift, I take flesh hounds because GK's don't like 'wasting' their psy powers on fodder like dogs! Also, always make sure to assault dark ex users with 2+ units so you can still do some damage.
Also be carefull of Banishers, who are one of the harshest things in the entire codex against us! (for 30pts they get a chainfist guy who negates Fateweaver's most important ability, because of corse GK's can't beat us without it?!?)
Warp Quake is an easy auto-win for GK's. If anyone is being "That F'ing d-bag" and pulling a turn 1 quake-shunt-win, just ask them where they misplaced their balls, because only WAAC's girls are that sad.
The other gimmicks like the grenades, psybolt ammo, dread-spam, mech mayhem, clensing flame and rending everywhere is just as big of a problem for us as it is for everyone else.
To combat the mech game, just load up on 5-man horror squads w/bolt. 5-6+ models who can use bolt can put a decent hurt on mech lists. Screamers also have a place now in mech-hammer as they're meltabombs can take care of land raiders.
The rest of it, just go with our stapples such as wound allocation 'crushers and perhaps try out fiends in place of the usualy 3-man flamer squads.
GK's have slightly altered out current tourny/netlist, but overall I think GW (or rather Ward 'cause he can't tell the difference between 40k & fantasy), screwed up big time on the knights, because their existance has overall killed our army entirely... When the grey knight player has to go out of their way to build a 'softer' list to not run us over, while we still need to take a more competitive type build, something's gone very wrong!
I've seen a 1700pts GK purifyer tourny list walk all over a 2500pts fateweaver list - and both players were solid tourny guys, so it's not like it was a smash-the-chump type game!
Banishers and dark excomuncation are less of a problem because they are daemon specific army upgrades. Few GK players will take the upgrades as they only work against daemon armies and are almost wasted vs other opponents. A few units get DE for free such as dreadknights and they of course will be more of a problem.
I run a list with plenty of horrors, Tzeentch chariots and Tzentch princes so have a lot of firepower able to shoot units I don't like. a banishers unit would receive a lott of attention until the guy failed a save and died. Or I would just deepstrike in another area and ignore him for a while.
Quorn! - Protein for the Protein God.
I also think that, in a tourny setting, dark ex is kinda a no-brainer buy for a libby. For 2.5 skaven slaves, you ensure an entire army is little to no threat or else force them to gang up or avoid 1 hard-as-nails squad.
Fiends are also becoming more desirable too imho because they at least have the larger threat range than 'crushers and strike at higher initiative which can be crucial in an environment teeming with GK players. If I need MEQ combat abilities, I'll send in the princes to step on the squishy things!
Haven't changed my list, still focus on tzeralds, thirsters, fiends, bloodcrushers, plague bearers, princes. Have as much focus on taking out vehicles and engaging as fast as possible. GK is a mayor problem but if i have higher mobility than him im hoping for the ds out of quake range/only taking one turn of shooting before locking him. To to answer your question, yes there are still the usual all comers list for daemons, they still work. Only problem is that almost no matter what, when you meet that GK player it will be an uphill struggle almost no matter what list you/he brought. Its frustrating as hell, but there isnt really a way around it.
Dark ex isnt that much of a problem. havent seen people taking it since daemon list are rare and GK have so many advantages anyway if they meet them, same with banishers. Dreadknight have it from the start so just thank the gods the errata clarified that they are s6 with doomfist. A thirster actually is pretty effective against them as he is one of the few things in the army that isnt made useless by dark ex, he is just a bit more vulnerable...
The mayor problem is quake, if he does that no matter what list you brought you are at a high risk of being tabled.
Second mayor problem is the stormbolter/psycannon/psy autocannon spam he can deliver. Every army suffers under this, its what they do...
Another option to try is to bring 2 different armies with you, and not decide which you'll use untill you're ready to deploy.
I'll play against the odd GK army, usually only the guys who admit their codex is beyond OP against us and thus will play a softer list and avoid alot of the overtly broken crap... (for example, they'll take 1 warp quake and use it to basically protect a small part of their firebase or spearhead from any flamers instead of smaping the table with it!)
Ward is a marine-loving fanboy so of corse he gives them silly shit. He also hates daemons because he's (rightly) accused of ruining fantasy with them! GK's I think was his 'appology' to fantasy players for screwing up their game... by screwing up our game! >.<
I would never sell my daemons though, they're playable in fantasy, and eventually we'll get a new book that hopefully addresses all of our many crippling issues.
