I attended the Caledonian Tournament at Maelstrom games in Mansfield last weekend. It was 1850 points of non-comped 40k with 6 games in all and about 120 players.
HQ: Fateweaver, Herald of Tzeentch on chariot, bolt, legion, sorcery
Elites: 6 Crushers (all upgrades), 2x6 fiends with might.
Troops: 11 Horrors with bolt and changeling, 4x5 horrors with bolt.
Heavy: Daemon Prince of Tzeentch with bolt & gaze.
Usually my chosen half was both HQ, all elite and either the prince or large horror unit. Luckily I rolled 3-6 for preferred wave in all games.
Game 1 v Tyranids
He took 2x2 zoanthropes, Doom, Carnifex with big gun. (all these in pods). Also a winged Tyrant, 2x12 Gaunts, 2 tooled up Trygons, 10 Steelers, 5 Raveners
Dawn of war saw his trygons set up behind buildings and tyrant in a wood. I went first and shot the HQ into oblivion and knocked a wound off one trygon. With no HQ he didn’t get +1 to reserves and just the raveners turned up and charged some fiends with a trygon joining in. I won that combat and the raveners all died to fearless wounds. My crushers were charged by the other trygon but fateweavers rerolls kept them alive.
T2 Horrors shot all summoned gaunts, fiends and crushers killed off both trygons. His T2 the doom arrived and fex and half the zoans. Steelers outflanked but on the wrong side too far from the action for a while. Doom landed in amongst most of my army and I took several wounds on some units but FW kept the damage manageable.
T3 I charge the doom with crushers while other units get out of 6” from the doom. We charge and kill the zoanthropes with fiends and FW kills the pod. More fiends pin the fex and finish it off in the next turn. Horrors, prince and chariot shoot the steelers through cover and the surviving 4 charge the prince.
Remainder of the game I clean up the rest of the army killing all for no loss (total net victory points were used to differentiate players with the same game points). 20 – 0 to me and more VPs than 1850 as I killed the summoned gaunts too put me on the top table.
Game 2 v Grey Knights
He took 3 Storm ravens with DCA and basic warriors in each. One had GK Librarian, another had Coteaz and 2 of the 3 had venerable MM/CCW dreads under slung. He also had 3 Psyflemen dreads and 2x3 un-upgraded warriors on foot.
I had first turn so he reserved the lot. I came down with chosen half and ran into FW bubble of protection. T2 5 horrors and the prince turned up too. He got 1 raven and 2 psyflemen and went for the charge with the Libby and DCA on fiends. FW protected and good rolls meant we won the combat and the HQ and troops ran off his baseline. He charged a psyfleman into 11 horrors who continued to die very slowly over the next 3 rounds or so.
T3 I charge the ven dread with fiends, immobilise and stun a few dreads then charge FW into a static psyfleman. 3 hits all bounced off the armour so his 1 attack hit, wounded, passed 2x3++ saves and Kairos went home to sulk. 2 more ravens and the warrior units turned up and piled down the left. The ven dread form these charged the prince and died on my following turn. I Immobilised a dread and shot all the guns off another using H&R to get the fiends around the table. My small horrors captured an objective late in the game when he was down to a full raven and an empty one. A 16-4 result for me which was nice against GKs (particularly as my opponent ended up coming 3rd overall)
Game 3 v Necrons
He took 2 Command barges with overlords, 2 ghost arks, 2x5 cryptechs (who went in the arks) with 4xS8 AP2 + 1 reroll cryptech each. 2x5 warriors in reserve, 10 Imortals with tezla + Orb Lord, 10 scarabs and 6 wraiths.
The short answer is that I got walloped. FW died T2 in combat to one wound from a lord, he shot the pants out of my fiends and crushers, charged the chariot with scarabs, then plastered each unit in turn as I arrived. I Killed the scarabs, a lord and half the crypteks for a 1-19 loss.
At the end of Day 1 I was about table 20 of 60 and felt ok about the performance despite the Necron disaster.

Game 4 v Blood Angels.
He took a lot of tanks! 3 Baalls, 3 AC/2LC Preds, 6 razorbacks with 5 assault+melta in each (half had las/plas and half had HF). His HQ was a cheap Librarian who granted cover saves to nearby tanks on all turns.
There were 3 impassable buildings in the middle of the table and 5 objectives spread out amongst and to the left of them. He deployed the lot in that half of the table and piled forwards popping smoke. I could come down on the left facing the wall of tanks or come down on the far right and roll him up from one flank facing less firepower but a longer route. I chose the second and the first 2-3 turns saw me running a lot and stunning the odd pred that was then swamped in combat the following turn by advancing crushers. He kept shooting FW and the prince and retreated with his fast vehicles. Eventually I moved onto the objectives and he started to fight hard but FW was still alive (actually passing a Ld test!) and whenever he got out of a tank he died to fiends. I grabbed an objective in the last turn and was well up on kill points for the secondary. I think I won 17 – 3.
Game 5 v Dark Eldar
He took a cheap HQ with T test or die flamer, 3 Venoms with nasty S8 shooty elites in, 3 more venoms with 3x5 DE warriors, 3 raiders with 3 wracs in each and 3 razorwings.
I went first and deepstruk in the centre killing a venom and stunning another. He shot the lot at Fateweaver until he died after 80% of one turns shooting. He also took 2 wounds off the prince and killed a fiend. All his missiles were used so the horrors could arrive and stay clumped as they shot. T2 only 11 horrors arrived and we killed 2 venoms and a raider by shooting and fiends sweeping up the stunned ones from last turn. 6 fiends died and some crushers and horrors in his shooting. T3 we had them in a corner and more horrors shot the skimmers and fiends multi charged stunned vehicles, surviving passengers and tweaked some skimmers that ran at cruising speed. Things were going well but after T4 I just couldn’t catch 2 troop transports that had gone flat out to the other side of the board and grabbed my objective. He won after I lost 13 horrors near the main objective on the last turn to shooting which was a little unlucky. If it was kill points I would have been fine but it wasn’t and I lost 2-18. Great game though and my first against DE.
Game 6 v Black Templars
He took a Captain with claws in a termie retunue. 2 more termie units all with max cyclones. 9 BP/CCW in rhino with Emperor’s Champion. 3x5 initiates with lascannon, Ven Dread with MM/CCW and 2 ML/HB speeders.
I arrived on his right flank but the crushers went back into reserve on a mishap. I killed 3 marines, 3 termies and stunned the dread with horror, bolt and gaze shooting. T2 he charged 10 horrors with 2 termies and shot a lot at FW. My T2 I charged some fiends in to rescue the horrors, the crushers arrived and 5 horrors too. I breath of chaos the retinue and plenty of bolt and warpfire killed 2 and wounded the HQ. T3 he killed FW but virtually all his firepower was needed to score 3 wounds. His EC + unit had disembarked and charged the large horror unit after the 2 termies were dead. My fiends were down in strength now and charged the ven dread immobilising it then killing the MM in the next round and using H&R to the far side of the board in range of his fresh termies which they charged on my following turn. The crushers killed off the retinue then charged the EC’s unit which had been thinned down to 5-6 by shooting and the last fiend from the other unit not to mention 2 lucky wounds from horrors in combat. In the final turns the horrors kept pot shotting bolt at the dread and sat on a secondary objective. The fiends H&R from the termies and killed off the other 2 troop choices but were down to only one wound at the end. My chariot had died to skimmers and the prince eventually turned up and killed the one that could contest my objective. End result was an 18-2 win.
A great weekend with an excellently run event. Venue was fantastic with decent tables, food, bar etc. Overall my 72 points and +2 over the standard soft scores for painting got me 16th place which I was really pleased with. My aim was to get top 25%. I was top daemon player but at least one of the other two must have been close as he was on a higher table on game 5 I think.

Great tourney. Congrats!
Record: Win - Loss - Draw: Hive Fleet Pandora (New) 32-6-6 Space Wolf 7th Co. 52-11-6
Blood Angels 12-4-2 Daemonhunters 20-8-3
Imperial Guards 12-5-2 Daemons 8-3-2
I am so friggin' glad you beat the Grey Knights player! Good showing. It restores my faith in my favourite army.
Well done madcat, good to see the daemonic forces well represented
This kind blogger took some nice pictures of some of the armies. My daemons are about 2/3rds of the way down.

The DE opponent from game 5 btw is the picture at the top of the page.
What do you think to my Chariot of Tzeentch using the Titan Forge big screamer and the GW Tzeentch fantasy sorceror?

I like it! It's completely unique and alot better than most of the chariot conversions I've seen. The new plastic Tzeentch Sorcerer makes an awsome Herald too as he's pretty mutated and all. Great work!
I actually like to see Heralds look like something other than regular horrors with big horns, it adds more character to the model and makes them stand out a helluva lot better in-game too!
The rest of your army looks pretty tasty too!
Congrats on your tournament achievments as well! (and especially for beating the snot out of those silly Grey Knights)
I took a version of this list today at the York heat of the Yorkshire open tournament. It was 3 games at 1800 points so I subbed 2x5 Plaguebearers for 2 of the small horror units and dropped BOLT from the large horror unit to cut down the list.
Game 1 was against a Marine Karn/Vulkan bike list. I eventually killed all his troops and had some left on my objective but he was able to park a LRR nearby to contest so it resulted in a draw with a slight victory point advantage to me.
Game 2 was against Geenstealer heavy nids who infiltrated all over to try and control most of the table. There was still space and we came down without misshap. I shot most of a 14 man steeler unit on arrival then the other unit multicharged fiends and crushers which didn't go well for him and a 6" crusher consolidate got them in strike range of the tervigon. Reserves then arrived and we began to roll up his army with fiends charging anything that wasn't a stealer and horrors shooting the steeler units. Doom was a nasty surprize but he got locked in combat with 11 horrors and the rest of the battle moved away as the horrors slowly died. In the end we had 2 objectives and the nids had none. Victory points was about 1300 - 500 in my favour.
Game 3 was against Mech guard with CCS+3 vets in chimeras, 2 hydras, Pask Punnisher, 2 vendettas with 2 more vets, a Manticore and 2 armoured sentinels.
Guard went first and deployed the manticore and sentinels on left corner and the rest to the centre right. I arrived near the corner force and failed in hitting anything with my bolts. The fiends killed the sentinels and FW got the Manticore in combat. I then began the long march up his baseline firing bolt all the way and doing naff all with it. Fateweaver took all but one wound on this march and we lost the prince and chariot. Fiends made Pask into a weaponless bunker while the crushers killed off the stationary hydras then set about a few stunned chimeras. Once we were in amongst them it got ugly for the guard and as it was a kill point mission it never improved for him. A win with 1500 - 250 VPs scored.
A nice little one day local tournament with 14 players. 2 wins and a draw got me 2nd place behind a BA player with 3 wins. My game 1 opponent (Scuzzlebum on this forum) came 3rd. Luckily for me there were no grey knight or DE players and I got preferred wave in all games again (this can be dangerous as you begin to rely on it and load one wave too heavily).
